That was cool of Rizzo to tell Barnhart after the fact that they indeed picked up on him tipping pitches and it confirms what eagle eye Jomboy thought. Of course that is assuming the giveaway was the long look at 3rd like suggested in the video and not something else that we couldn't get a good look at from the CF camera.

I thought about posting this yesterday.... it's media hype to an extent, but it's an example of how qualitative data can enhance quantitative data.

Put another way, it's one thing to see his advanced statistics, but he is passing the eye test as well.

Side note - Zack Short has 10 more RBIs at Toledo than anyone on the Tigers major league roster (Disclaimer - this is neither an endorsement or a promotion request of Zack Short, just a sharing of information).

When a pitcher has a bad elbow or shoulder for an extended period of time, the odds are never good!

OTOH, Masahiro Tanaka is still pitching in Japan and as far as I know never did have his UCL replaced despite a TJ diagnosis.

Tanaka was an interesting case.  He wasn't as good after the injury, but he was still pretty good without getting surgery.  Probabilities are never 100%.  Even the probabiliy of fully recovering from surgery is far from 100%.  The probability of recovering and then staying healthy and durable is even less.

to put tork's struggles in perspective, adley rutchman (the #1 prospect in baseball) is hitting .145 with no power.

it takes time for most players to get acclimated to the majors.

Not sure if this is sarcasm or not, but he also hit a missile for a double last night to drive in a run.... nearly left the yard.

He's gonna have his ups and downs, but he's better than the alternatives and it doesn't seem like his confidence is hurt or anything, so no issue with him learning in the bigs

Torkelson has the fourth highest OPS+ on the team. He's not raking at all but odd to single him out as a problem.

So, today is the first day of All Star Voting....

I can't vote for any Tigers because the only deserving folks are in the pitching staff (ie. Skubal, Lange, maybe Vest)

Wily Peralta is third, with a 0.8 BR WAR. The guy has pitched 22 innings with a walk rate of 5.2 BB/9 and he has the third highest WAR on the team? Bizarre.

Tork has been worth his weight just in the number of bad throws he has already saved. I've only seen him lose one so far and Jeimer and Javy have both had him working hard most of the time. I don't know what kind of glove Pete Alonso had with the Mets last season but with the Cubs Javy had Rizzo at 1st. If he threw in Chi like he throws here, Rizzo must have saved him a lot of errors as well. Javy's not uncatchable wild, and clearly the arm is a cannon, but he almost never makes a straight at the chest throw to 1st either.
