I agree with this.

Maybe he deserves criticism for ghosting, but there was a universe of unfair speculation that emanated from his departure, much of which never came to pass. Including those who assumed he wouldn't make the end of his contract.

Clearly we don't appear to be on course for that.

Along those lines, some of this may be Avila dysfunction.

Maybe. But as much as I dont like Avila, no rational person would have ever bought into the idea that he wouldn't come back to finish out his contract. It wouldn't have been in his interests, especially since it appears he wasn't being paid during his time away.

Sometimes I feel like the only person on the board who isn't surprised he came back this year or believe that his reasons for being away may not have been completely nefarious.

You're not the only supportive one if you peruse all of my posts on the matter...

I really feel bad for Austin Meadows.....he is going through absolute hell.

Yeah for sure, I wonder when he was on his rehab assignment if it would've helped him at all to go to AA and play with his brother for a couple weeks? Of course it would've just been a short term fix but considering how bad this year has gone for him it may have helped his psyche even if it was just temporary.

In his statement, Austin Meadows says he has been in the clubhouse and will remain with the team through the end of the season. That would seem to rule out painkiller addiction, right? Because if that were it, wouldn’t he be away from the team so he could urgently deal with that?

Eduardo Rodriguez and his camp deserved all the criticism they got for ghosting the team for those several weeks.

How do you know that he ghosted the team?  Have you now moved over to the group who views Al Avila as a credible source?  Who wouldn't say anything to protect his own ass?  I think that based on Avila's behaviour we should all be Eduardo sympathizers.

Seems pretty shitty to just assume the guy is addicted to painkillers for...no real reason at all? Seriously please fill me in

Agree.  He said he needed to work on his mental health, which could be a number of things, which are all personal and should be treated that way. I appreciate that he shared as much as he did, hopefully inspiring others to take any necessary steps for themselves.

IMO, whether he ghosted the team or not is sort of beside the point. It's more that there's this baked-in assumption that whatever reasons Eduardo stepped away for are illegitimate and, by extension, the completely unfair view that because of this situation, he couldn't even be counted on when he did come back.

None of it made any logical sense, especially since it later came out that he wasn't being paid... it just reeks of being reactionary.

Regarding Austin Meadows, I wish him all the best of luck. I dont know know the particulars of what he is dealing with, but he has the right to privacy in working through them

I have a family member who survived a serious bout with Covid and know of others...it can really mess with your mental state, even after the physical symptoms have lessened.

For people involved in long term medical research, I think Covid is going to be a treasure chest

This one I believe because the idea that Rodriguez and his agent were in touch with the team, but that Al Avila lied and said they weren’t, makes no logical sense. It could have been disproved as easily as Mato publicly saying that the team is lying, which he would have been motivated to do having been publicly accused of doing something that essentially breaches his clients’ contractual responsibility to the team.

It shouldn't be besides the point.  What he did was grounds to void the contract, regardless of what the reason was.

Correct, they had grounds. Although that was obviously not going to happen since it later came out and was confirmed that he forfeited money for the time away.

But regardless, it's more that there's this baked-in assumption that whatever reasons Eduardo stepped away for are illegitimate and, by extension, the completely unfair view that because of this situation, he couldn't even be counted on when he did come back.

It's telling that people won't speak to any of that when it is brought up.

How do we know if he was training or doing any kind of throwing or workout routine while he was gone?  The assumption that he wouldn't be able to help us when he got back isn't exactly unfounded.  Again, regardless of what the reason was.

Both wear socks high.  Both are 6'4" and around 210.  Both have jersey number 32.  Both have provided spark the second that the put the old English D on.  Come on, I can't be the only one that sees it, can I?
