Edman85 Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 If Sosa/McGwire/Bonds don't count, neither do the 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, or 2009 Yankees. 2 Quote
lordstanley Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 I cut into my daughter’s dinner to watch Judge’s 61st. Quote

mtutiger Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 (edited) I can't help shake the belief that Judge's chase to overtake Maris is a team-specific story masquerading as a national story, because of the Yankees outsized impact on baseball media. Don't want to take anything away from Judge, hitting 61 is impressive, especially in this environment... but as Ed alludes to, if we are to wipe away Bonds and McGwire and Sosa, the logical end to that is an asterisk next to all of the championships that happened in the era they played in. RandyMarsh Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 Lol well he didnt say anything about Sosa and he surpassed that number multiple times. Quote

I guess I'd go a little further on the basic logic. It's an event, it happened, it's in the books. I guess I don't really care about anyone's opinion about the event. Makes no difference to me or to what is now historical fact that stands on its own. Edited September 29, 2022 by gehringer_2 Quote

RandyMarsh Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 With the Mariners clinching the playoffs last night we are now tied with the Angels for longest playoff drought in the AL, if the Phillies hold on and make the playoffs this year we will then be tied for all of baseball. Quote
mtutiger Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 So I'm sitting here watching Kentucky-Ole Miss, and ESPN cuts in for Aaron Judge in his pursuit for 62 home runs. Why? Quote

Tenacious D Posted October 3, 2022 Posted October 3, 2022 LaRussa officially retiring (again). I hope his health is OK, but he really tarnished his legacy (at least to me) with the last two seasons. That was a formidable roster of young talent, and nothing to show for it. I know they had injuries, but all teams experience that. I suspect with a strong manager that the ‘23 team will perform well—the talent is still there. Quote
casimir Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Just heard this little nugget: An average trip around the bases after hitting a home run is 26 seconds. Albert Pujols has spent over 5 hours of his life in a home run trot. 2 Quote

oblong Posted October 14, 2022 Posted October 14, 2022 Was it Sutter or Jeff Reardon who had kind of a breakdown in a mall and we found out it was the result of his son dying? Quote
