An Eastern Conference executive who spoke to Sean Deveney of Heavy.com believes the Pistons are a team to watch if Draymond Green doesn’t sign an extension with the Warriors before he becomes eligible for unrestricted free agency in 2023. Green was born and raised in Saginaw, Michigan, attended Michigan State, and grew up rooting for the Pistons, who have long had interest in acquiring him, according to the executive.

“(Pistons owner Tom) Gores is a Michigan State guy, and they wanted to give Draymond an offer sheet when he was a free agent (in 2015), but by then, the Warriors were going to match any offer,” the executive told Heavy.com. “So they just have not had the chance. If they can show some improvement this year with their young guys, they could get themselves in the mix.”

The idea of Green playing a mentor role on a young Pistons team is an intriguing one, and the combination of his local connection, Detroit’s projected 2023 cap room, and the rising cost of the Warriors’ roster make it a possibility worth considering. But for now, this feels more like idle speculation by a rival executive than anything concrete.

If Green and the Warriors are far apart in contract talks and he seriously considers leaving in 2023, Detroit could certainly emerge as an option, but there’s no reason at this point to think that Golden State won’t make every effort to lock up one of the cornerstones of its recent dynasty.

No thanks. I have serious doubts about his value outside of the Warriors system and those shooters. And if you're talking about signing him away from the Warriors because they can't afford him, then you're talking about a contract that's far bigger than I want to pay for a old version of a player with questionable value in the first place.

That's even before we get into the fact that I enjoy rooting for the players on this roster, which is a nice feeling after the Drummond era that had very few players I actually liked. Let's not mess that up by bringing in a guy like Green. I think there are only a few players I dislike more, but there's little chance KD, Harden, or Patrick Beverly wind up here.

in a league with james harden and kevin durant and draymond greene and patrick beverly and ben simmons and lebron james and steve kerr, it's really hard to stand out on the unlikeable scale...but gosh darnit if kyrie doesnt give them all a run for their money.

The league is releasing the full schedule today at 3PM.

Four games on national TV. Three on NBATV and one on TNT.  The TNT game is against Philly. 

Six game West coast trip around Thanksgiving. Then another five game trip around New Years.

First five games aren't bad but then it gets ugly. Atlanta x2, Golden State, Milwaukee x2.

They are also doing something called rivalry week. Boston and Chicago would be ours IMO. Boston is playing the Lakers, obviously. And Chicago is playing Charlotte for some reason. Detroit is not participating.

They have back to back home games vs Atlanta early in the season and back to back home games vs Indiana later in the season.  A back to back home/road with Philadelphia in the middle of the season.

We’ve seen the home/roads before.  I’m not sure I remember the back to backs against the same opponent in the same city.

I wonder if we start to see more of that type of scheduling.  It does cut down on travel for the visiting team a bit.
