Bad defense to go along with Mize’s inability to get swings and misses is not a good combo.

He's overthinks things way too much, trying to be too perfect with every pitch.

23% called strikes and whiffs. 4 whiffs on 75 pitches. I'm not absolving Candy...bad play. But the ball is in play a lot.

exactly. He gets into a rut where where he nibbles outside and then misses high. But I think the real problem for Mize is that he just absolutely cannot pitch mid high - he just get's hammered in the middle vertical third. He has to stay up and down, and then misses too much when he goes up. Hopefully he's still just not on his game with the short ST, but he hasn't been very impressive so far this season.

He is still young so I am inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt.

It just concerns me that a lot of his issues seem in his head to me.

Agreed, just settling down and making his pitches feels too complicated right now
