Fwiw, when Spencer Turnbull went on 10-day DL last year it was for “forearm strain”

Well once the ligament goes, the muscles (flexors) start to pick up the slack. This is common.

Elbow sprain is straight up ligament damage. It may not be bad enough to need TJ. But it is, by definition, elbow ligament damage.

So, can we assume that he sprained it in his last start?  When you sprain something, you usually know it right away and I don't think he could continue pitching.

Dan on the radio broadcast just said that Baez’ thumb injury dates back to the Opening Day celebration. He was trying to get out of the way of getting Gatorade dumped on him. Maybe that’s been reported elsewhere but first I heard that.

The elbow is different from the ankle. Especially a pitcher's elbow, which is sore every 5 or 6 days.

If Skubal ends up looking like an ace this year and Mize ends up disappointing (either thru injury, performance, or both), is that a win for the Tigers?   What is the expected hit rate on top pitching prospects?  If we get 1 front end guy, 1 average starter, and 1 fringe starter/long reliever out of the trio of Mize, Skubal, and Manning, is that okay?

If they get one ace out of this group, it's a win.   I would consider your scenario a success.

Imo, getting one ace out and a solid starter out of the three would be good.  Of course if all three turned out great, well, that'd be great. But, historically, that's not how it usually goes. Kind of reminds me of the early Verlander, Bonderman, and Robertson years...alll three came on strong and were pretty hyped intially, but ultimately, Justin was really the only one that panned out.
