I'm going to surprise her with the trip.  I had casually mentioned going to see them that weekend and she said "yeah, sounds good".  I worked out arrangements with my other son and mother in law to take care of my other son that weekend.  Hotel wasn't expensive at all and I got the flights for free with my miles.   Definitely go to the museum as when we came there before with the kids that wasn't something they wanted to do.   Will spring it on her Friday morning to pack up, our flight leaves at 1.  Masks don't bother us at all. Was just curious on the situation there.  Sounds like it's stricter there than here in MI.

last time i went to the art museum they were passing them out to people before they went in.  you have to wear one to get in.

i really havent seen an issue here.  people just put them on to go inside.  its the norm now.  the train is a little different cause all types but even then its like 90%.

have a good time!

the governor has talked about ending the mandates before the holidays but i dont think that will happen.

Nope... none of that.  My wife barely makes it past 10 pm.  We won't be pulling a Risky Business.... I want to hit up Buddy Guy's place but with the band that's in town that we are going to see it might be super crowded as they have a tendency to make appearances there after their shows during their Chicago Residency and the fans know about it.  A few years ago when they did that Buddy got up and  was playing with Susan and he asked her "Where's that fucking Husband of yours?"  "He's back on the bus counting the money"

Buddy Guy’s was shutdown when I was there in July.    Enjoy Derek & Susan.   I know you’ve seen them many times but they are awesome!

Thanks.  With 4 shows to choose from I decided to pick the last one.  I was booking the fanclub presale during a meeting and had great seats but lost them as someone asked me a question.  So I got some 7 rows further back but at 1/2 the cost.  Oh well.  The pandemic altered their schedule and no shows planned for Detroit this year so this is my best chance.

shootings downtown are up 220% since 2019. thefts are up.  robberies are up. crime is way up downtown.

i mean, if youre in bed by 10, the chances of somebody mugging you go down quite a bit!  lol.

have you been there at night recently?  i think its because there just arent as many people as there used to be, so you notice the people milling around that you wouldnt normally notice just because there are usually so many people.  and there are a lot more younger people around because i think so many people have moved there in the last few years.

i'm only there on occasional work days and am out by 5 or 6 but its definitely noticeable to me.  but oblong's from detroit, nobody will fuck with you if youre from detroit, lol.

I don't worry about anyone randomly shooting me because I'm not in anybody's business. Vast majority of the time, if someone gets shot, then someone else targeted them for it.

Yes, I realize that I could be an exception because in a world where anything can happen, anything can happen. Hope it won't disappoint you to hear that the idea of my getting shot in downtown Chicago never crosses my mind even a little.

Apparently there was a big backlash at my company after the CEO quoted Salman Rushdie equating freedom to vaccine mandates, encouraging people to vote out politicians who support mandates, and claiming CEOs of local companies are telling him privately they regret mandates. Had to address all the hate mail he received from employees.

Interesting. I bet you don't apply that logic to police related shooting since I'll wager one is more likely to be randomly shot in Chicago by another citizen than by a cop.

Funny but this year I have noticed at Tiger games it seems like a bit of a rougher crowd hanging around.  Some new places opened up over the last few years.  Just a scene of fast cars, loud club music, people waiting to get in and milling around the sidewalks.   And greektown is turning into a place you don’t want to go past 9 pm.  For my whole life until about 8 years ago that was pretty much the only place in the city you could go to.  Every weekend there’s something that goes down.

yeah - I've noticed that after games as well. I've assumed it was the casino crowd getting more hard core.

I was in Illinois last week for family reasons (W/SW Burbs).

People mostly still following indoors, but there were some places where enforcement of the mandate was pretty lax. (Which, honestly, not sure how necessary the mask mandate really is at this point, so 🤷‍♂️)

when i was in okc there was no enforcement.  and i agree with you on the necessity.

the place i see where its being really enforced is on a plane.  theyre pretty vigilant there.  but places like grocery stores and restaurants, people are wearing them willingly and nobody needs to be told to do it.

No bother at all, budd.

Things can be dicey anywhere people congregate. It's no worse in downtown Chicago than downtown Detroit or downtown just about anywhere. I don't think there's any particular need to be hypervigilant. A reasonable awareness of your surroundings, same as at a game or a festival or the mall, is almost always enough.

Where i work here in Michigan my company is preparing for the mandatory masks for the not vaccinated rule to potentially go in affect next month. So the 2 HR ladies were going over the memo to be posted with about 20 salaried employees. As they were going over the memo they referred to Whitmer as Governor Whitless, and suggested she is going beyond the federal regulations because she expects to lose reelection and wants to get appointed to the Biden cabinet.

I said "maybe she is trying to save lives?" From there the whole thing turned into a shouting match and the meeting was cut short. The Trumpies were shouting "the good states aren't doing this !" And calling Whitmer a political pawn of the president.

All because they have to wear a mask for a while. It's embarrassing.

That's mind-boggling.

I'm currently in Corpus Christi visiting my BIL.  Went to an HEB which is like a Kroger and the mask situation was the same I'd expect in Michigan.  Most workers are wearing masks too when you go into gas stations, restaurants, etc.  My BIL says the more rural places aren't wearing masks, similar to Michigan.  That said, Texas numbers are around 1/2 of what we're seeing in Michigan.

I was in Florida last week.  I only noticed a couple people wearing a mask inside or out.  They are currently the best state in nation per 100,000 person cases.  What state is the worst?  That would be Michigan.

Chicken egg.

I'm in FL and not wearing masks because spread is low and the CDC doesn't recommend.

Also more ppl in FL are vaxxed than MI.

Also, the peak in FL was a lot higher than the current one in MI.

The thing goes in like 6 month cycles.
