I've got a relative who spent weeks in the hospital w/ COVID and still won't get vaccinated, nor will the rest of the people that live in the same house and got it.  Monoclonal antibodies are A-OK though!

Do they rail against socialism while ignoring the cost of hospitalization and monoclonal treatment vs a $50 shot?

The money aspect isn't the only weird thing about it either.  I won't get the shot my doctor says is good for me, but if I happen to get sick, sure, give me the monoclonal antibody treatment which I'm guessing 99.9% of people never heard of before either.

Interestingly, not really.    They are very much into every conspiracy theory and quasi supernatural thing.... but not much into politics.    He didn't vote bc even though he buys into qanon he also hates Trump.

True. And the development of the monoclonals was every bit as 'rushed' through the process as the vaccines were, and monoclonals probably have higher theoretical potential for serious side effects than the mRNA vaccines, though to be clear, in practice I have not heard of any associated with these COVID monoclonals.

LOL I think it makes for you telling a bunch of lies about whitmer in upcoming posts

Yes, trying not to take the bait there since I know a Whitmer response is likely coming.
My response is this - if you claim to be pro-life, and know there’s something that can easily be done to prevent death, you may not want to call yourself pro-life in this instance.

The nuts that call themselves pro life and just anti women. They don’t want them having any control over their bodies or sex lives.

Ha ha, you got an email from Microsoft customer service saying that the signal was getting weak.

Let me tell you, ever since I have gotten the vaccine I have been bombarded with ads to purchase a new Surface, upgrade to Windows 11, purchase an Office 365 subscription, and make Edge my default browser.

the history of the world is replete with systems put in place by men to control other men, but especially women. The male has always feared the power of sexual attraction the female possesses. That's cooked into a million years of genes. Civilization is the the long climb from genetically programmed to rationally based behavior, but the US is clearly regressing on that scale as a society, so this should not be unexpected.

LOL - do you want me to recap the last 10,000 posts from this and the old forum?

Rejection of science, cultural celebration of ignorance , the shift from the popularity of rational/enlightenment Christianity (old school Protestantism) to anti-scientific biblical fundamentalism (this is a huge movement - by far the most important),  movement away from demanding critical thinking from the leadership on both the right and left, the increasing cultural objectification of women even in the ironic face of the explicit rhetoric against it, the re-emergence of the US white nationalism, the explicit admission by the political elites that democratic principles are now strictly transactional ( this one is significant because even when principles were ignored in the past, they were not admitted to be ignored, so social pressure could be brought bear to bring things back toward compliance. When the elites are explicit in their rejection of principle, that leverage now lost - you will never shame Mitch McConnell or Donald Trump, to live up to a higher principle than the win - and yes I could probably come with someone on the other side just as bad but not as close to mind if I wanted to spend more time than I do.).

That's all I got in 5 min.....

i appreciate the response.  suffice to say, i think you've vastly overrated the influence of those you disagree with politically, and vastly underrated the effects of technological and political progress in the lives of women.  so much so, that i would argue that there are no women in the history of the world who have as much freedom, power, well being, and progress as women in the united states in 2021.

and call me whiggish, but i think that will continue to increase in the upcoming years no matter what happens at the supreme court.

Pre-COVID (remember that?), I would play basketball on Sunday nights at my kids' school/parish gym. It was finally scheduled to start back up, I thought starting yesterday. Since I hadn't heard anything definitive, I reached out to the organizer of it. He got right back to me to say that it was supposed to start, but unfortunately he's in the hospital with COVID. 🙄

Of course I replied to wish him a speedy recovery, but what I wanted to say is that apparently there's no vaccine mandate for Sunday night basketball... Now I'm not sure I want to play. Both my parents are coming off health issues (cancer and heart problems), and the thought of having potentially other unvaccinated guys breathing right in my face playing basketball and then carrying that to my parents, is not all that appealing. If it were just friends that I knew were vaccinated, I'd have no problem playing, however I know a number of the other parishioners are anti-mask/anti-vaccine.

Vaxx vs unvaxx rather than shirts vs skins?

Hey, I know of an outdoor court close to your place that doesn't get used much this time of year.

That's true, the United States is the best country for women to live in. Well, except for the Netherlands. And Norway. And Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Canada, Switzerland, New Zealand, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Austria, Italy, Spain, Japan, Australia, United Kingdom, Portugal, and ... wait for it ... Singapore.
