OK, yeah I remember some, you jogged my memory - I remember the dudes on the local sports channel were going off about how golf courses were closed and that definitely didn't need to happen. It seemed like there was one point where it was determined that outside activities were actually a good thing. I agree too about certain parts of stores. This time period in the U.S has to be the most state by state laws/restriction difference than any time in our history. Wether its COVID restrictions are Marajuana laws, etc. fascinating stuff. I think another factor is/was the airports that had international travel. I think the infection rates for those states, especially if they’re more densely populated are/were affected with the reflected higher infection rates, sickness, and deaths. That first month of the pandemic was so dark, but it’s wild to think about deaths being like ten times what they thought it could be. I could be off on these numbers, but I remember a worst case scenario of something like 60,000-100,000 deaths in the country at one point. That sounded horrific at the time, and we of course lapped it many times. This is most likely endemic, but I’m glad to see that the new case count is at 620/day here in Michigan. Biff Mayhem Posted March 1, 2022 Share Posted March 1, 2022 One positive thing that occurred in our household is my wife slowly but surely built up about three months of dry goods, laundry soap, paper goods etc. She didn't panic buy or "hoard". She just bought extra of everything that didn't spoil when she was out. When this happens again and things may end up going more nuts, we're good to bunker down for months. Some were speculating death counts could go over 2 million in the US, applying the then reported death rate to a projection of a majority of people infected. A million seemed more (for lack of a better word) achievable, especially with Trump in office leading an administration not taking it seriously. Look, I love me some Canadians but you might start an international incident with that. One of my motorcycle buddies rode a full bagger with a passenger right across my lawn not long after a watering and the tire track was there for about 6 weeks. He thought it was hilarious.
