chasfh
Two days after the mask mandate was cast aside here in the city, I’m at the grocery store, and I would say between one third and one half of the shoppers I see are still masked. Totally cool—their choice. But it looks like 😷 is going to die a little harder here.
smr-nj
I plan on still wearing my mask when I’m doing casual shopping, grocery shopping etc. I have an operation coming up in about 4 to 6 weeks, and I’ll be damned if I’m going to have this virus before I have to check into the hospital. I didn’t go for two years being smart about this to changed today.

oblong
You never know why someone is wearing a mask. Maybe their spouse or parent is immunocompromised? Not having to wear a mask and having vaccines is great for the vast majority of people but for some, a lot of people, it's still a nightmare for a virus as contagious as Omicron. oblong
That could be for warmth.... I'm sensitive to this because I have a special needs child. He's unaffected by this. But I read a story about another child who had some disease where covid could be fatal and virus effectivity for him is a lot lower. When he heard about the schools getting rid of the mask mandate he started crying and asked his mom "Does this mean I can't go to school now?" There's a lot of families dealing with that. I'm not saying everybody has to adjust their way of doing things but just show some empathy because we don't know everyone's story.

The masking in the car could be because they are picking up an immunocompromised person to take them someplace, maybe to a medical appointment, and they want to keep the air in the car clean before the person gets in. Jim Cowan
A friend of mine was helping her grandparents move to a seniors residence. They had their masks on for the whole weekend, except when they were in the car. She got it from them.

gehringer_2
with attitudes as hardened as they are, you wonder who is out there still getting vaccinations who by now didn't already have one or had no intention of getting one, but nearly 100K people in MI got a vaccination last week as per michigan.gov/coronavirus. chasfh
March 3, fourth day of no mask mandate here in the city. Went to Walgreen's to pick up a prescription. They still have a "mask required" sign up, although it may be just laziness or hopefulness that they haven't taken it down. Maybe two dozen people in the store. Mask compliance: 100%, expect for one guy. Mask over nose compliance among wearers: maybe 50%.
Crazy Cat Gentleman
here it's day 3 of no mask mandate. the few places I've been to in that time still have signs requiring them. no one seems too bothered. even in line at a food cart today—outdoors—everyone was masked (including noses). Tigeraholic1
Day 400 and something of no mask mandate. No one wearing a mask, my wife's ICU has zero covid beds (Since last Saturday).
Tigerbomb13
It’s gotten as close to me as it ever has. Girlfriend has it (she likely got it when we were in Grand Rapids last weekend for Winter Beer Fest). She has bad asthma, so it’s hitting her pretty hard. Not hard enough to go to the hospital, but definitely sick. She took two rapid tests a couple days ago that were negative and took three tests today that were all positive. I took two negative rapid tests today and have had zero symptoms.
buddha
about 30% unmasked in the grocery stores this weekend.

Early on when I had a homemade mask and it was so hard to take on and off, I would leave it on in the car. That's when we were told to not touch the mask until you could wash your hands. I think it's often because they are distracted and forget to take it off. I hate wearing a mask and take it off as soon as I leave the store, but some people are not bothered by it and becomes natural to them. Or maybe, they are going to another store nearby and they don't take it off because they don't want to have to put it on again.
ewsieg
Last time it snowed hard, I put on a mask as I went out to shovel. Never would have done that before, but over time I got used to it and often found myself in the winter months wearing it as I left a business until I got into my car. I've been maskless for awhile, but my wife's doctor asked us to continue to wear them for now so i'm back at it.
gehringer_2
curious, Washtenaw county, which has the 2nd highest vax rate in the state and where the U is still enforcing masking in the classroom, is seeing its case rate sort of sticking just above 10/100k while it's falling lower in many places. Maybe fewer cases here through the pandemic mean that even with the higher vax rate net immunity is lower? Or just the higher population of youth due to EMU/UM, or maybe even early vaccine compliance means more people with falling immunity? Or maybe just a statistical blip this week......
