mtutiger Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 Why is the Select Committee on COVID, put together largely by people who think concerns about COVID were overblown, so concerned about the origins of the leak? It's just really bizarre cognitive dissonance. 1 Quote

I didn't really have a dog in the fight one way or another during the height of the pandemic because it didn't really change the fact that it was a problem that needed to be dealt with, but 60 Minutes had a really good and compelling report in early 2021 on the origins of the virus. And the fact that the WHO rep they had interviewed in that report, IIRC, was pretty equivocal and shifty in his answers. Not to mention the initial investigation visit to Wuhan was pretty tightly controlled by the CCP. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/covid-19-wuhan-origins-60-minutes-2021-03-28/ That left an impression.... somehow, like most things that happened during COVID, it got really politicized. But the possibility should never have been dismissed out of hand. But again, this is more of a geopolitical question than it is a scientific one.... and it's a little too on-the-nose that the same politicians who yammer on about how COVID was NBD turn around and breathe fire on the origins of the virus. It's not hard to figure out why imo. Edited March 2, 2023 by mtutiger Quote

The Koch’s have probably lined his pockets nicely for being the medical face of the conservative COVID movement. In the American medical system, every doctor is savvy about business, and some even specialize in it. I'm just wondering whether Malarkey's medical specialty qualifies him to speak as a COVID-19 expert. Quote

Tiger337 Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 I think a lot of this is an effort to discredit and eventually dismantle our bureaucracy so there will be no more regulation of big business. Quote

Right. It has been the strategy going back to Reagan. If you find a dificiency in the government, you don't fix it, you use it as an excuse to stop doing that function, which is precisely the agenda of the GOP's corporate funders and why the GOP is able to collect so much corporate money despite the general corporate preference for sanity and stability. What could be more transparent in that regard than their crusade against the IRS? The people who rail daily about deficits won't support the agency that could earns back something like $10 for every 1$ they put into it? Quote

No one covered it until the Dept of Energy report just came out. I see nothing wrong with the Bray/Fox portion of this tweet, but this Josh Marshall guy is not paraphrasing what he said correctly. Bray did not say China did this as a bioweapon, but pointed out it's a concern. A legitimate journalist should see and report that difference as it's quite important. Quote

Still, You would think that the FBI director would use cautious and better constructed language instead of awkward phrasing which is going to send his target audience into hysteria. Quote
