The judge in this case is…really something.

I'm not an expert in legal matters.... but if the jury were to come back with a guilty verdict could this judge throw it out?  Or tell them to go back and delibarate more until a not guilty verdict is reached?  I am not certain that's out of the question of happening.

I read that a friend of his in Kenosh supplied the rifle.

He testified that he paid the friend to buy the rifle from a gun shop. Then he was going to officially “buy it when he turned 18 to bypass the gun laws.

Kind of like buying beer when you're a minor. Still illegal IMO

That's not legal in michigan. You sign that you're not buying the firearm for someone else.

But what is the state’s recourse if you turn around a year or so later and decide to sell the firearm to someone who recently turned

A person can sell a used firearm at anytime. Laws are different for rifles and handguns.  When purchasing a new firearm a person has to have a  background check. If you buy it for someone else and do not disclose it that's called a straw purchase and its illegal. I think the person who provided the rifle to Rittenhouse is facing charges.

I have heard same as you that he was there to help protect businesses and be a medic.

What is an assault rifle?  I see that term used a lot here.

oh boy, now we're going to pretend "there's no such thing as an assault rifle" is an argument that hasn't lost here a bunch already

Its not an argument.  If you dont know the difference between firearms its best to educate yourself so you won't look foolish. Assult rifle is a term someone gave a firearm because they are afraid of how it looks. It doesn't work any different than any other semi auto firearm. If you don't like firearms, afraid of them or don't know how to use one its best to stay away from them.  We don't need another Alec Baldwin.
