“Ghouls” is much too mild, but I think we’re all running out of adjectives to describe these people.

We are doomed.

Are we at the Alarmist Non-sense stage yet?

There's a lot to be frustrated about with this point that we find ourselves in, but the preoccupation with the innermost thoughts of these tech bros (who clearly have nothing in common with normal people or can relate in any way to their problems) remains a real crutch for all of us.

Literally the only reason we are forced to care what any of these guys think about anything is their money. That's it.

There is a lot of basic business blindness going on here because of the bright light reflecting off the shiny new toy. Energy has never been free, will never be free. Even if the marginal kiloWatt can be genated for next to nothing (as per solar or even fusion) the capital input, transmission cost, and maintenance of power systems are and will remain substantial. If AI answers continue to cost a lot of energy, then they will have cost associated with them and people will use other ways to get the same information. Right now the IA you are getting is coming to you subsidized by the suppliers as market investment, but if the cost doesn't come down, they eventually have to make money and the cost will go up and the free stuff will go away and the market will narrow. The energy consumption will have to fall to get the kind of application rates they are dreaming about.

Great post - this technology (along with the proliferation of bitcoin mining) is absolute bottomless suck of energy. There's no guarantee that it will be cost effective any time soon

ooh that's interesting but could/would trump just pardon/commute that too?

Yeah, nice gesture but it's not going to hold up, and Mehta will just be removed.

Amazing how all of these tech guys sound like 70s era Bond villains justifying their plans (that would exact a lot of pain on all of us)

Real "Curt Jurgens talking about his amazing underwater utopia" energy lol

In that world the human's job will be to consume.

Sounds like when they said Internet service would be too cheap to meter. They're partly right: it is too cheap a commodity for them to charge based on usage, but that doesn't mean they don't charge a high price as the market rate for you to get it in the first place.

Andreessen obviously knows this and thus couldn't possibly be more disingenuous than he is striving to be here.

As she vociferously supports the guy who boasted to howard stern about barging into dressing rooms of underage girls.

And when Howard Stern asked if he could call Ivanka a nice piece of ass Trump back "Yeah" to it.

Wait until they start going after “woke” white people for not being racist enough.

From the looks of the screenings going on for government workers, that has already begun.
