Some have been saying that these other folks that have been thumbing their noses at congressional subpoenas look at what happened to Bannon as a cautionary tale. Which they should. It’s kind of infuriating that they all just ignore it and I’m glad to see Bannon take the first hit , but I sure as hell don’t want him to be the last one to take a hit. Openly flaunting a Congressional subpoena has to have a heavy penalty or the system won't work.

And the whole weak D strategy of “we can’t get tough like that with Rs because when they win they’ll just turn around and do it to us” is hot garbage, because even if the weak Ds do nothing, Rs are going to “do it to us”, anyway.

1776
China tried to build a network of informants inside the Federal Reserve system, at one point threatening to imprison a Fed economist during a trip to Shanghai unless he agreed to provide nonpublic economic data, a congressional investigation found. The investigation by Republican staff members of the Senate’s Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs found that over a decade Fed employees were offered contracts with Chinese talent recruitment programs, which often include cash payments, and asked to provide information on the U.S. economy, interest rate changes and policies, according to a report of the findings released on Tuesday. In the case of the economist, the report said, Chinese officials in 2019 detained and tried to coerce him to share data and information on U.S. government policies, including on tariffs while the U.S. and China were in the midst of a trade war. WSJ This is both alarming and at the same time silly on the part of the Chinese-a measure of how little they understand their target. What is done more out in the open in the US than formulate Econ policy? Just read the frickin’ WSJ , maybe bookmark the EDGAR site, and save your intelligence budget.
