Mr.TaterSalad Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 (edited) Pardon me, but I don't know which thread to continue discussing the Clarence Thomas matter in. But is there any potential legal jeopardy facing Thomas for the luxury trips he accepted from the Republic donor or is this an ethical oversight on his part, but not something that rises to the level of illegality? I suppose he is a 'federal employee' so failure to disclose was probably some kind of misdemeanor at least - but I just bet there is too much abigiuity about jurisdiction for anyone to bring a case. CMRivdogs Posted April 12, 2023 Posted April 12, 2023 Here's a court challenge I'd love to see go before juries... https://www.sltrib.com/news/education/2023/03/22/utah-parent-says-bible-contains/?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email Basic thumbnail, an Utah parent is asking the court to remove the Bible from libraries for basically the same reason "Christian" book burners are seeking to remove other books. So they’ve submitted a request for their school district in Davis County to now review the Bible for any inappropriate content. “Incest, onanism, bestiality, prostitution, genital mutilation, fellatio, dildos, rape, and even infanticide,” the parent wrote in their request, listing topics they found concerning in the religious text. “You’ll no doubt find that the Bible, under Utah Code Ann. § 76-10-1227, has ‘no serious values for minors’ because it’s pornographic by our new definition.” The code cited is the Utah law passed in 2022 to ban any books containing “pornographic or indecent” content from Utah schools, both in libraries and in the classroom. It came after outcry from conservative parents groups, who have been pushing to have titles removed. Quote

If there is enough heat, a non-profit will reimburse for the trips, if someone raises legal concerns, some more wrangling will be done until Thomas is responsible to reimburse a very small portion of the trip as 'his seat'. It's almost like someone (Whitmer) already gave him an outline on how to do it. Quote

Hard to call it anything but just evil - and a total rejection of the whole American premise. The symmetry is perfect though - people who wrap themselves in the Bible and reject every semblance of its teaching also wrapping themselves in the Constitution while doing their damndest to govern as tyrants.
