I didn’t get a chance to watch that link but I know the CBS broadcast cut some of Derek’s work.

It's the CBS feed, trying to find a full version if possible

I assume everyone gets earworms that randomly get in your head for a day or two.  Usually, they aren’t even songs that I like, pop stuff that my daughter listens to or TV jingles.

This song somehow maneuvered its way into my brain.  It’s hard to have a bad day while you’re humming this one repeatedly.

John Mayer?

Seems odd to have him with Country guys.

He plays a lot of blues-oriented stuff and they are trying to reach more people.     We are a Triple A station and our station plays Zach Bryan but I don't think our country station plays him.     Zach fights the Country Music Machine so they don't play him as much as they should and he is proving he doesn't need them.     His new single sounds more like Lumineers than a country song.

I believe he actually did a country-ish album at one point.

Michigan Stadium concert sold out in less than 2 hours.

I didn’t realize that set a record for a ticketed concert. George Strait had the previous record.

Thanks for sharing. We watched it that night and in my non expert opinion… Dave doesn’t look well.  His face reminds me of a good friend of mine who has had 3 heart attacks, 2 of them a few days after we went to a baseball game. He’s gonna pop.

Waiting for the FCC memo that either tells us what music we can or can't play or bans all non-U.S. born artists from the radio.     They are investigating stations to see if artists are being frozen out for not doing station events.     I've been in radio for 38 years now and I have never "punished" an artist like that.  I never play that game, it's stupid -- only hurts your own station.    But where does a line get drawn?  Maybe you're not playing something because you don't think it's a good song or a good fit.

The Killers should have been the first concert there.

They tried to get them to come play the song live at a game, but it didn't work out.

Part of the issue is they couldn't sell beer up until last year and they weren't going to have a concert without beer or alcohol sales.   That was the biggest hurdle.

This show in September is a trial.  If it goes well, expect a couple shows a year in the future.

Our station does a segment every weekday at Noon called "Trinity of Women" (brought to you by Trinity Health).  We play 3 female artist and stretch a bit out of our format to salute the great women in music history.

Anyway, the great session bassist Carol Kaye is about to turn 90 on 3/24 - so I took a shot and emailed her and asked her about songs we could play in her honor for her birthday.     She emailed me back - right away!   How cool is that?   She's got a long long list of credits too.   Hard to narrow it down to 3.

She said in the email she pivoted away from rock music because of the Manson murders.    Carol had played on Beach Boys records,  knew Dennis Wilson.    Manson and his followers lived in Wilson's house for a time.    Charlie wrote some songs, the Beach Boys covered one of them.   He had a demo that Wilson took to producer Terry Melcher, who thought the songs were okay, even though Manson was not a good singer.  Melcher set up a meeting at his house, -- on Cielo Drive.   While Melcher thought Manson could have been a decent songwriter, after meeting him, he was skeptical and then while visiting Manson at Spahn Ranch he saw Manson (and followers) beat the snot out of a drunk stuntman and Melcher was out on Manson, which pissed him off.   Manson was unaware that Melcher (and Candice Bergen) had sold that house to Roman Polanski.       The victims were not the targets that night.

I can understand why Carol said "that's enough for me, see you later".

That's depicted in once upon a time in hollywood.  Manson goes to the house and asks for Terry.

Vulfpeck released their new album yesterday, along with a concert where they played it.  So far this is my favorite but I admit to a bias towards Joe Dart and his bass.

She featured on the documentary about the Wrecking Crew, but apparently she's not a fan. I guess the BBC did a documentary on her a few years ago as well.

I  can't believe I came upon this for the first time ever today

This is a short version. Evidently Brian Wilson was obsessed with this song, calling Shortnin Bread the best song ever written. I guess there are several versions out there.

Including a session long enough to freak out Izzy Pop

I can understand why this song would appeal to someone with mental health issues.

If you locked someone in a room and played this on repeat for only 45 minutes, it would be considered torture.

I love Brian Wilson's music.  He was a  genius (talking past tense because his days of music-making are over).   But like every artist, not everything he did was on-target.  There's plenty of nonsense in his repertoire.    It doesn't all need to be found.
