oblong Posted May 9, 2023 Posted May 9, 2023 I was not into that music at the time but I also appreciate when someone I know has good taste making suggestions. It takes a lot of effort to listen to new music for me. Quote

I think it must have been on a Canadian TV series I watched ~20 years ago. Sloan has a lot of great songs. Most of my favorites are on Navy Blues. She Says What She Means, Iggy & Angus, Money City Maniacs, Chester The Molester. On other albums: The Good In Everyone, Underwhelmed, Coax Me, Snowsuit Sound. Underwhelmed is probably my overall favorite track of theirs. Quote
lordstanley Posted May 9, 2023 Posted May 9, 2023 (edited) Funny, when MCS mentioned Sloan and their hooks, I meant to reply that no Canadian band has better hooks than the New Pornographers. This song has the added bonus of reminding me how Vancouver looked and felt in the year 2000. Edited May 9, 2023 by lordstanley Quote
Mr.TaterSalad Posted May 9, 2023 Posted May 9, 2023 Country music isn't dead, you just won't find anything good on the radio these days. You have to look to music blogs and streaming services to find good stuff like this from Megan Moroney and her new album Lucky. Good stuff with raw emotion, and actual country arrangements. Quote

She's still involved in some of the songwriting and on the studio versions and performs with them at special events like album launches or tv appearances. Dan Bejar of Destroyer i believe is no longer involved, although did contribute at least one song (the opening single?) to the album. It's really Carl Newman's band now, with help from Kathryn Calder. Edited May 9, 2023 by lordstanley Quote

I know a little more about her solo stuff. through about 10 years ago, anyway. Quote

Neko lives in either upstate New York or Massachusetts and a few years ago her house either burned down or was severely damaged by a fire. She begged the small town newspaper not to mention her name in the article. Why? Stalkers. Every female performer has them. They referenced her anyway. ****ty move. oblong Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 Black Crowes count? I don't mean the rock radio staples but you could find some hidden gems with more of an indie sound. Quote

There is going to be an extended Spotify playlist with a bunch of artists that I did not have time for and The Robinson boys will be on that list. It's an indie-oriented show meant to highlight songs and artists that you don't get to hear during the week (but probably should) Edited May 11, 2023 by Motor City Sonics 1 Quote
Biff Mayhem Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 I made this Black Crowes playlist which purposely avoids all the radio hits except "Remedy" because that is such a great freaking song. Quote
Motor City Sonics Posted May 12, 2023 Posted May 12, 2023 (edited) There you go.................I finalized the show this afternoon (I have to send it to a few stations by Friday at 10am) and then the Watson Twins come out with a new song. Oh well, it'll have to be on the Spotify list. Here are some of the artists Co-Picks Of The Week BAILEN (4 songs), The Lemon Twigs (4 songs), Joseph (3 songs) plus The Kinks, The Hives, Breeders, Beach Boys, Radiohead, The National (2 songs because they have 2 sets of brothers), The Hives, The Teskey Brothers, Stooges and several others. ewsieg Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 My buddy just shared this with me. I remember seeing it awhile ago so I wouldn't be surprised if Oblong posted it here before. It's just a rehearsal so the quality isn't great, but fun watching them talk it through and roll with it. 1 Quote
oblong Posted May 16, 2023 Posted May 16, 2023 Chris has soul.... I always got Peter Wolf vibes from him. That video is relatively recent so I never shared it. It has their new drummer, bassist, and keyboard players. I wish I liked Aerosmith so that I could justify seeing the Black Crowes when they come here. Chris played at the Crofoot a few years ago and I couldn't go, was very bummed. To see him in such an intimate setting would have been great. Quote
Edman85 Posted May 16, 2023 Posted May 16, 2023 I haven't voluntarily listened to terrestrial radio in almost 20 years at this point, but love throwing down 20 dollars at a bar and requesting about 20 songs on Touch Tunes to see if anybody knows them. I honestly have no idea if the stuff I listen to is played on the radio. Quote
CMRivdogs Posted May 16, 2023 Posted May 16, 2023 I'm a fan of NPR's Tiny Desk Concerts, at least to the point of following them on Feedly. This is the winner of the 2023 Tiny Desk Contest, a couple from Utah. I don't epect them to be super successful, but I like the sound 1 Quote

I've noticed I wear deodorant less and less these days. i work from home. It's not an automatic thing but I often work out during the early evening so I won't put any on if I know I'm doing that, except a group class. Then when I get home and shower before bed I obviously don't wear any. Weekends I do of course. If I go into the office I will too. Quote
