Will Williams even be ready for the first 6-8 games of the season? If not, Chark will have all the time in the world there to showcase himself.

It was reported that he was well ahead of schedule with his recovery which is why he was shooting up mock draft boards the last several weeks. Apparently, he could be good to go as early as Training Camp although these situations are fluid so we'll see.

I like the trade...they traded the 34 pick...essentially... to move up 20 spots in round 1 and to move from 66 to 46.  I would have maybe liked to take Hamilton or Davis from Georgia...but that big play WR was a need too.

Get a S or LB at 46 and I will be  a really happy camper

Should the Lions go after Lamar Jackson? He's going to be a free agent and appears unhappy with the Ravens. Surely the Ravens will franchise him at the end of the season so maybe the Lions can work out a trade similar to the Stafford deal where they send Goff and some picks to Baltimore on the condition Jackson agrees to an extension. The Lions offense will be intriguing for Jackson. A very good offensive line, two good receivers plus a potential third if Chark has a good season and they re-sign him, a good TE, and a solid running game.

Have decided yet if I like these or not.  It's an interesting take and I like the effort.  Makes me wonder what they'll do when the draft is in Detroit.

I was thinking about this too. I know the Motor City and Motown are the themes they will lean on but I think it would be fun to have some self deprecating humor and showcase just how pathetic this franchise has been. They have can have blown up banners of the best SOL moments like Monte Clark praying the kick will go in against the 49'ers, Sterling Sharpe left wide open in the end zone, Germaine Crowell cutting to stay in bounds, Marty taking the wind, Schwartz throwing the challenge flag, Calvin and the process of the catch, the Aaron Rodgers Hail Mary, the 10 second runoff against Atlanta, the batted ball against Seattle, the Silverdome not imploding properly. I think a little self deprecating humor would be fun. They can call it Not the Same Old Draft.

Was listening to Valenti earlier and it's bad when he has to be the voice of reseason. Resident Lions hater Rico Beard thought it was a stupid move cause the Lions don't have a qb to give him the ball(yet he loved Miami getting Hill when Tua makes Goff look like Mahomes in terms of willingness to throw down the field.)

Valenti correctly pointed out that yes you are indeed allowed to collect weapons before getting your qb and that this addition makes Detroit one of the more attractive destinations for either a qb you draft to walk into or any potential veterans that want to be traded.

you always like to do this, imagine that the lions will make fun of themselves on the big stage.  it aint happening.  the league and the lions are not about to trash themselves on national tv.

it will be a "motown" and "assembly line" thing.  they'll trot out barry and calvin.  it will not be anything "celebrated" about their futility.  i mean, theyre owned by the nfl's leading advertiser!

we - the suffering masses - will be here to snark on them.  the league will not.  and hopefully we are talking about the lions being a team on the rise that only needs a couple more pieces to finally reach the promised land.

pff guys all loved the lions draft.  love jameson williams and really loved hutch.  nothing but good things to say about us.

This draft reminds of when my wife bought the ridiculous Dyson vacuum because it was on sale for $100 off.  The thing still cost $450.  She insisted it was a great deal.  We could’ve bought so many other things that we needed which were more important for our house with that money but she got distracted by the great deal and the  shiny new object.

Side note in what In may be a good sign for the Lions, turns out the Dyson is amazing and works a million times better than our previous vacuum.   I’m not sure it’s worth the price but the outrageous purchase definitely grew on me.

We don't have the capital necessary for the licensing fee from the NFL and the league probably wouldn't license it anyways, but a buddy of mine and I have had the idea of opening up an SOL Lions Hall of Shame Museum for years. We mapped out the exhibits and how it would be laid out. You go through the decades, starting with the Bobby Layne trade and you get to see displays, video footage, and artifacts from the greatest SOL moments. In the giftshop you could by t-shirts, paperbags, and autographed photos from the likes of Eric Hipple, Scott Mitchell, Wayne Fontes, Marty Mornhinweg Germaine Crowell. I don't know how it would work once the novelty wore off, but I'm sure the opening season who do great ticket sales.

Outside of a quarterback which by all accounts there weren't any worth taking early I cant think of a position the Lions needed more than a speedy playmaker that can line up on the outside and stretch the defense. Not having that guy last year hurt the team more than just about anything else.

Linebacker, linebacker, safety, another cb.

They signed DJ Chark to fill the exact role you described.

We also don’t know if Amon-Ra could play outside full time but I bet he could if they chose to use him that way.

Williams is great for down the road but they aren’t there yet.  Especially with Jared Goff at QB.   This team is still 2 years away from being good at a minimum.

outside playmaking receiver is more valuable than linebacker and safety.

let's see who they get with the vikings' pick.  there are lots of linebackers and safeties left, but there was only one receiver like williams with his pedigree.

i'm not mad they came up to get a receiver, i'm worried about his acl.

I can't believe there are some people who didn't want to lose the 66th pick. Kellen Mond was drafted 66th last year. Some of the same people who wanted the Lions to trade for Deebo didn't want to move up for Williams.

I don’t know any of these people.

Many of the best WR in the game were drafted outside of the first round.   The Lions last 2 Great WR drafted were 3rd and 4th rounders.   It was a luxury pick that high for a team not in the best position to do so.

Most of the media is gushing a about the Lions draft (and the New York teams, rightfully so) so that means only one thing... that Hutchinson and Williams will bust.

It's not a luxury pick when you have a desperate need for a gamebreaker. Williams was arguably the biggest gamebreaker of this draft offense and defense included and they did it for a relatively cheap price. Maybe they could have taken somebody like Hamilton with the trade up but I don't see him as a big game changer like Williams has the potential to be.
