Only real net effect is that Faedo or Brieske doesn't go down They need to stop screwing around and let Peralta stretch out from this outing to take Pineda's spot. Quote

We could be 20+ games out by the end of June. First - what other choice do they really have? Second - both have shown, so far, that they deserve another start. Small sample size. Might as well see all the young guys we can. Season's over. Just trying to figure out who to go with in the future. Quote

That's the other option... although having Peralta in the BP at least gives you a longer option in the event of a disaster (today's game being case in point). Maybe Rony Garcia fills that role instead? Quote
Jim Cowan Posted May 15, 2022 Posted May 15, 2022 Brieske and Faedo, I trust those 2 guys and would happily give them regular starts. Quote

But Avila is incompetent. Some of it is luck, the xFIP numbers for some of their relievers and starters show it. But some of the conversations around here about the pitching staff (and how disastrous the situation they find themselves in) seem misplaced given who this team was trotting out last year and given that guys who were off the board (ie. Faedo, Brieske, Wentz) are now options. They arent trotting out Buck Farmer or Derek Holland or Ian Krol these days... the bullpen, even if the peripherals are less rosy than the ERA shows, is much better than in years past. Cisnero and Funkhouser aren't even here, and tbh, I think I'd take Alex Lange/Will Vest over either one of them at this point. And even with the starting pitching stretched as it is, it seems likely that they are going to have significantly less scheduled bullpen games because they have more viable options, even with injury. The offense is a different story, but I watch a lot of baseball, and the Tigers, pitching wise, are far from being in the worst situation compared to the rest of the league. Quote
