well he didn't win in 2020 so that was one event where he didn't get away with something.

Yes, not winning elections is the only thing that might happen.  However, I think he would have won in 2020 if it were not for Covid.  He also is probably making more money off his loss than he would have being president.  He'll win the Republican nomination in 2024 and will win the general election if the economy is not good which is a strong possibility.

I can't make anyone who doesn't have access to SAPs understand the gravity of this.   But, Imagine he gave up the Overlord plans to Hitler on May 6 and allowed Hitler to plan the defense of Northern France without worrying about the Pas de Calais.

Imagine he gave the atomic bomb plans to Hitler and the Japanese warlords.

Imagine he told the North Koreans that Macarthur was going to land at Incheon.

That's all true.  But as long as people like Rubio, Cruz, McCarthy, Tucker, Hannity, etc. see nothing wrong with it then so will 40% of the public and another 8% will say "Yeah that's bad but we can't have 'socialism' so we still have to vote for the GOP".   If Trump is convicted he'll get pardoned by Pres. DeSantis.

Worse still will be that people lower in the food chain will routinely leak sensitive program materials with this precedence.  So, expect that ISIS nuclear attack on NYC to be a matter of time.

Is there anything stopping Trump from being president if he is convicted?  You would think it's not allowed, but it might be one of those things that is just assumed.  I don't know.

Right it was never considered that a major party would be so compromised to actually nominate someone convicted for that.

They know Trump can't win a general election anymore.   They are just playing along for the $ from the rubes.

The GOP have totally screwed themselves.   Trump has to run because the grift is just too good for him to pass up.   It’s hundreds of millions more he can steal from his maga cult.   If the GOP doesn’t get behind him as their candidate, he’s just going to run as an independent and will end up getting more votes than DeSantis or any other conservative. Can you imagine an election where the Republican Party candidate finishes 3rd?   It’s really in their best interest to see Trump go down and find a way to rally his cult around DeSantis but they are either too stupid to realize it or too simped to do anything to stop it.

…. And most of the country won’t care, because it’s New York City, and who cares about those people anyway.

… and, this, too. ( although even if it was a Republican mayor, he would be a RINO)

They would care because the one thing they fear more than liberals is foreigners.

I hope that's true, but I am not convinced.  If the economy gets screwed up enough, I think it can happen.

Obviously you can't be complacent.  Their plans to thwart democratic elections are proof of their desperation though.

For money.  He doesn't believe there would ever be a need to be exiled.  He's gotten away with everything his entire life and this is no different (he's probably not wrong).

I think Trump being exiled would be one of the worst outcomes I can imagine because he will be able to resuming throwing bombs via social media with impunity, which I believe will make him much more effective a leader of the Overthrow America movement than he can be here in America.

He won’t do hard time in Leavenworth, either, obviously.

I think the best outcome, assuming he is found guilty of the capital crimes we all assume he engaged in, is house arrest at one of Jeffrey Epstein’s island properties, one that’s been completely denuded of all discretionary communications capability, and that is beyond the ability of red hats to make a pilgrimage to. The United States must maintain chain of custody of a convicted Trump.

Just my two cents, but it's always worth remembering that not all 74 million who voted for Trump are the "cult" Trump folks. And when you look at the polling results in terms of approval of the FBI warrant (which runs somewhere between 55-60% approve depending on which poll one looks at), it stands to reason that he'd likely bleed support on the margins if he's indicted and/or incarcerated for any reason.

I know there's a tendency to think that everything that happens benefits Trump in some way or another, but I doubt that incarceration would benefit him at all. Particularly with moderates and suburban voters.

Yeah, definitely would be strong in a GOP primary rigged for his victory by corrupted party hacks.

But, in a general election with all his negatives and many more people paying attention and wary of his shenanigans now.  He lost in 2020 while the rest of the GOP had a decent day.  That should tell you a lot about his brand.

It may not make much of a difference in terms of control of the House / Senate when things are all said and done (given that it's a midterm with Ds in power), but the disconnect between the wants/desires of GOP Primary voters and general election voters in general is playing out in real time as we speak.

Certainly one doesn't want to take credit away from Fetterman, Warnock, Ryan or even Barnes, but no doubt their candidacies have been aided by the GOP Primary voter elevating less than ideal candidates to compete for general election votes.
