Hmmm, with Clemens, might not have had to trade Smoltz.  Rotation would have looked good going into the 90s.

The Clemens thing is fun to think about, but 17 other teams passed on him.  It's like agonizing over not drafting Trout.  There are so many players like that.  The Tigers were really really cheap back in the 80s, so there is no way they were going to be the team to offer a big bonus to Clemens.

Finally, I can breath a huge sigh of relief with this news:

If there was any concern that Cleveland would not be able to take the next steps with its historic name change, all of that worry can now be put to rest.

The team announced Tuesday morning that the lawsuit filed by the local Guardians roller derby team over use of the name “Guardians” had been resolved, with both organizations permitted to continue using the name.

Most anything is better than the name Guardians. The real question to be asked is, how much $$$ did the local roller derby team get to play nice.

The most surprising part of that story is that there are still roller derby teams. I had no idea that still existed.

They made a comeback out here about 15 years ago. Not the fake stuff from the old days, but a mix of show, athleticism, and millennial irony. I think they still are around, with small regional league.

There was a tourney somewhere in SE Michigan a few years ago. I saw several women’s teams heading thru the North Terminal at DTW. Was a bit surprised it was still a thing.
