Trochek maybe is interesting but I agree with you I would say.  I don't see Detroit doing much

trocheck or copp simply because they are desperate to get a second line center.

i'm more open to copp because he's younger and is a good defensive player.

they have so much cap room they can probably go higher per year with those guys than some others.

but larkin's deal needs to get done.  i would expect him to get 8-9 mil per year.

part of me would like to see them sign forsberg and trade bertuzzi for mrazek and nylander, but that's just wishful thinking.  i think we move bert and probably stand pat for at least one more year.

Palat?

Not a bad idea but to me he is just a tad too old to fit into their plans I think.  Even Trochek at 28 feels a little bit of a stretch.

I like Copp a lot and would love him on Detroit, I forgot he is a Michigan born guy.  I know the Rangers like him a lot but he may have priced himself out of their budget with these playoffs.

Not sure that the point of trading Bert would be if it's not for picks, unless he's just worn out his welcome with the team and/or FO.

because they need a center more than a wing, especially if they signed forsberg.

look, its just a pipedream that's not going to happen.  although bert to the leafs for mrazek plus a boatload of picks and young players make sense for both teams.  i dont think the leafs move nylander, but they do have younger players and draft picks to give up.  especially if the wings take mrazek off their hands.

Well Yzerman certainly doesn't seem scared of smaller forwards.

individual players don't have to be big, but as a team you can't be small. It's not only the ability to absorb and dish the physical play, but it seems the importance of reach has grown and keeps growing. Maybe a function of the modern stick to some degree or just the taller players in the league perfecting styles of play that incorporate that reach.

nazar is too small for me.  savoie too.  the wings are already really small and not very physical.  they get pushed around all the time.

i'd rather take one of the defensemen if one falls.  i know we need a second line center, but being able to grab ANOTHER potential big, agile, puck moving defenseman is too good to pass up, imo.  and someone will fall to them.  someone always falls.

if they do go forward and most of the big names are gone, take kasper.  maybe gauthier.  both are bigger guys.  and then sign copp.

I thought Cotton would get a contract.  Kivenmaki seemed to have a tiny bit of traction before his injuries

Hakkan (well Kenny by Hakkan's suggestion I'm sure) drafted this Swedish kid Hampus Melén back in 2013. I was so certain we had found our next Eurostar, Swedish sleeper after watching some film on the kid. Kid never made the roster or got a contract. Oh well, so much for that.

I don't know where else to put this but I just want to say that if Walter Gretzky were still alive he would kick Wayne's ass all over that backyard skating rink.

Here's the situation, online gambling has recently loosened up in a big way (meaning that the Province is no longer the sole owner of gambling revenue) and a lot of online gambling sites are flooding the Ontario airwaves, led by MGMbet whose principal shill is Wayne, I mean Jesus FC do you really need the money? A lot of minor hockey organizations have protested, trying to get local television stations to stop carrying the ads, to no avail of course.

Wayne you have disgraced yourself in the only market that ever mattered.  The glitterati in LA will never see these ads and wouldn't care if they did.  But the legacy of your dad and everything that he meant to hockey and charity in Brantford ON...what a disgusting display

97.1 spends a lot of time discussing betting lines as a part of their broadcast (at least in the evening on my way home from work) and they run a ton of ads for casinos.

That seems like an unholy alliance....encouraging what becomes addictive behavior for many

if you hate sports betting ads because it might cause addictive behavior, you must get really upset every time you see a beer ad during a game.

Beer used at any level below intoxication returns a positive value to the purchaser. Every gambler will eventually lose money,

Like Canada didn't learn Gretz was a sell out when he went to LA?

lol.  and?  do you win money on beer?

i gamble on sports book sites.  i've probably "lost" $100 in the last two years.  four people at a sporting event can spend that on beers for one game!  lol.

the pearl clutching is over "addiction."  if so, why not be as concerned about alcohol ads?

I was waiting for someone to bring that one up...and while I agree that the concern I voiced is indeed the top of a slippery slope, I think the an addiciton to gambling is worse...possibly because I know people who have dealt with it and I don't really know anyone addicted to beer.

addiction to anything can be bad for you.  addiction to alcohol can actually kill you.

meh, i can make my own choices.  so can you.

addiction to anything can be awful, i dont see legalized sports gambling in america as any worse than alcohol (in fact, much less worse).  most countries all over the globe have legalized gambling and sports are intertwined with that.  north america has its own little brand of puritanical protestantism that looks down its nose at anything fun or even fun adjacent.  to me, this is a product of our national prudery.
