Apropos of nothing, I'm OK with Rene Russo, but her look in general is not my bag. I would rather have seen Jeanne Tripplehorn in the role: similar look, but softer, and easier on my eye. Biff Mayhem Posted March 22 Share Posted March 22 Road House. Went in expecting nothing. Did it suck? Surprisingly no. I was entertained. Lots of great humor especially from McGregor which was so over the top. I mean really over the top. Plot was thin (duh). Soundtrack was lacking the charm of the original. romad1 Posted April 22 Share Posted April 22 "Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" has the worst screen performance of Winston Churchill I think i could have imagined. It also has the most bizonkers portrayal of Churchill's chiefs of staff (people presumably appointed by him) all being appeasers who were ready to give up to Hitler in Jan 1942. That said, its a fun movie if you treat it like a "Sgt Rock" or "Sgt Fury and his Howling Commandos" comic book. And the lady who is in it is the same lady (Eliza Gonzalez) as was Monica/"darling" in Baby Driver so...woof. Basically, leave your history degree at the door and enjoy them killing Nazis. I loved the unique element of the movie being set in the 1970s on a late night show. It was one of the better horror films I've seen in a while. oblong Posted May 23 Share Posted May 23 I hope they didn't show all the funny stuff in the trailer. I love the double take when they refer to Cop III..... yeah that was bad. We don't acknowledge that one. The original was such a huge deal. I saw it 3 times in the theater as a 11 year old. We bought the VHS tape, this was one of the first VHS tapes you could buy for like $30. The studios were still nervous about selling them direct to consumers. And my advice is if you haven't watched the sequel in a while... watch it again. It is probably better than you remember. In some ways its better than the original. Right around when David died is when I started watching. They would show that particular outfit on ESPN and I got the magazines. The movie was really good. My wife enjoyed it too, she is a fan of Jeremy Allen White and was immediately roped into the story. They did a good job telling it from that angle and not just make it a wrestling movie. The scenes in the ring were just long enough to tell the point without dragging it on. As with most stories about real things they changed some things, but Kevin was ok with it. They are not making a documentary. There was a younger son they completely left out, Chris. He also committed suicide. And the timelines were a little off. Kerry didn't lose his foot until a few years after winning the title. And he was married and had kids. He developed a painkiller addiction after his accident and was facing jail time over a second arrest, that's what prompted the suicide. The only thing I wish could be different in the movie, which is nobody's fault, is White was too short for Kerry. It matters somewhat because he was towering and rumor is if Vince McMahon couldn't get Hulk HOgan to lead his expansion he was going to use Kerry because he had the Adonis look. But it's hard to find guys who can act, have the body, and be able to do what's needed in the ring so it's not a big deal. But he had a presence in the ring that was pretty large. I never knew about his foot until his WWF days in like 1991. They kept it a secret. I think the diversity of a girls youth hockey team in Northern California may have been a bit overplayed. And the protagonist got totally jobbed on a penalty. For what? Interference? Roughing? That’s a great description. I wasnt expecting much but it was fun. It did a good job of being an 80’s movie. I really liked they kept all of the same songs and actors.
