I am wondering how that will play for people who don’t the story?  Is it too much inside baseball?  I think it could have made an interesting miniseries if you go back to its inception of a concept… with Johnny demanding they quit showing reruns.  Are they squeezing too much into one movie that I read is played out in real time. I can’t wait to see it.

A movie that should get Oscar buzz is Conclave. It's the best movie I have seen in a while, and has a great ending.

Just saw it yesterday. It will probably be the frontrunner for the Oscar, and not just for its actual quality of presentation, which I agree is top-notch. The type of story and the moral it tells is very trenchant for Hollywood at this particular time. Some people will think it too on the nose, but I’d watch it again if for nothing else than the photography and the performances.

It's an actual movie without a bunch of yelling or super heroes or CGI or blood.   A good old DRAMA.    We don't get those too much anymore and when we do they are usually smaller indies and with both the Main and Maple Art closing, there aren't many places to see those anymore (when they are new).

Well, there’s some CGI and a little blood, and you could argue there is a bit of a superhero in it, although not an MCU type. Stanley Tucci yells a little bit in one scene.

The only thing that threw me about the movie is 2 Americans being considered finalists for Pope (unless Lithgow is supposed to be Canadian).     I am guessing the two were Americans

That's what I was thinking, Tremblay is a common Canadian name, but Litghow didn't do a Canadian accent and he would have.       Of course being related to Mario Tremblay, this would have infuriated Patrick Roy

Two Scorsese dark comedies from the mid-80's,   After Hours and The King Of Comedy.  

Are you familiar with these films?   

Two of my all-time favorites, but both were bombs at the Box Office and it's probably why Scorsese didn't do many more comedies - and I think it's a shame.

Apple TV's "Blitz" was good.  I guess a lot of people will moan about the casting but it was very good.

My take is that some of those who get into vigorous arguments  that “Die Hard” is a Christmas Movie are venned with the bosses who claim that their being Jimmy Buffet fans means they are rebels who like to work hard and play hard.  

Very much a stale take which appeals to a certain type of regular barbershop visiting dad of a certain age and mental flexibility.

I listen to a great podcast called The Rewatchables.  Run by Bill Simmons and The Ringer network.  If you like movies I cannot suggest this podcast enough.  They mix in pop culture and sports as you'd expect a Simmons program to do.  I look forward to it every week.  It's caused me to watch movies I never would have considered (like The Verdict) and to revisit movies I saw once or twice back in the day but never gave much thought to since, recent examples being Running Scared, Sea of Love, and Internal Affairs.

I'm currently listening to their Lethal Weapon episode, from 2021, and they talk about it being a Christmas movie and how that time of year in LA is very distinct for people who live there.

They have been doing it for like 6 or 7 years so there’s a lot of movies to pick from.  My advice is skip for now the “big ones”. Pulp Fiction, Boogie Nights, Goodfellas, Godfathers.  Their criteria is generally post 1970.  The reason I say that is you want to get to know their personalities and the inside jokes and references they use.  Those movies I referenced were big deals when they did it so they are kind of “events”. You will appreciate it more. The episodes for movies I didn’t like are still good.  I remember listening to The Firm twice because it was so funny.

If you haven’t watch “The Six Triple Eight” movie on Netflix yet, I would recommend it. 
It is an amazing story about an astounding and inspiring group of women.
