But see, it's not fine, that's the problem.  Some of these people end up in Congress and use their ridiculous beliefs and fairy tales to try to govern how the rest of us are allowed to live our lives.

But see, I've already qualified my statement with "as long as". So I'm covered.

In your scenario, someone ending up in Congress and governing from specific religious beliefs do pick my pocket, at the very least, so you're right, that's not OK. But if my neighbor down the street wants to believe whatever he wants to believe, that is fine—so long he doesn't use it to pick my pocket or break my leg.

I guess I'm just someone who thinks the world would be in a much better place if people believed in facts and evidence rather than 2,000 year old fairy tales.  That doesn't apply to only politicians or the neighbor down the street but essentially everybody over the age of 12.

If you could, would you prevent or ban people from believing what they want to believe, even if it's not the thing you yourself believes?

This is what my previous post was about.  I don't think most of these congresspeople give a **** about religion, but they'll pretend to be religious to get votes, maintain power and pick your pocket or someone's picket.

I think that's true of many of them, but I also think many others are true believers which, in my own opinion, makes them even more dangerous.

I blame the schools.

They may be true "believers" but it doesn't mean that they have Christian values which is dangerous.

Hitler had a similar view of the Jews.

I've always claimed, even in this thread, that people can believe whatever they want.  I've also said that I'm not obligated to keep my mouth shut when they spew nonsense.

Of course, to me believing in economic fairy tales like Reagonomics should be just as disqualifying to be a Congresscritter because it's just as damaging.  And TBH there a lot of overlap between the two.

Wait, what?

You stated the world would be a better place if everyone fell in step with your beliefs of how things should be. You leave no space for free thinking, in your better place.
Would you close all the the places of worship spaces? How far would things need to go for you to feel your right has overcome the wrong?

Accepting facts isn't exactly falling "in step" with a belief system, it's simply an acceptance of reality.  The more people accept the world around them and how they came to be, the less likely they would be to believe in silly fairy tales that cause them to engage in hate and violence towards others who don't accept their falsehoods.

But hey, you enjoy church this weekend, be sure to try the grape juice and crackers.  I used to love those when my parents would force me to go to church with them when I was 12.

The second paragraph is totally unnecessary and simply makes you an intolerable asshole. Knock it off.

Yeah but you're totally fine with people comparing my comments to Hitler's beliefs or blatantly taking what I said and twisting in into something else.

If you're not going to chastise that person publicly, then don't try doing it with me.  Also, if you're free to call me an asshole then right back act you buddy.  You're one of the most stuck up self important assholes on this site.

So, that's what this is all about.

I've always said that's what it was about, parents indoctrinating their kids.  Luckily I was intelligent enough to break free from the absolutely stupid ass beliefs that you idiots cling onto for life.

Oh and to our asshole mod, don't come here trying to give some speech about how I've forced you to ban me.  Just do it you pathetic asshole.   I have no intentions of ever visiting this crappy little site again.

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

(Why even announce you’re never visiting again? Just don’t. That’s pretty pathetic. 😂)

....  I used to love ...when my parents would force me to go to church with them when I was 12.

I was an atheist by the age of 11.

My mom forced me to get Confirmed (Catholic) at the age of 13. But I don't hold any grudges. She was just tougher than I am (she's tougher than most).

But I was shy and introverted at that age, so: Atheist by 11. Agnostic before then (who knows anything before that age...?). I guess I was also a "Catholic-in-training" before that age.... but obviously the training didn't take. And Confirmed Roman Catholic. That's all on my "resume".

It didn't change anything.

And like I said... no grudges. It went in one ear... and right back out the other anyways.

Hope that doesn't offend anyone...
