Some of these people end up in Congress and use their ridiculous beliefs and fairy tales to try to govern how the rest of us are allowed to live our lives. But see, I've already qualified my statement with "as long as". So I'm covered. In your scenario, someone ending up in Congress and governing from specific religious beliefs do pick my pocket, at the very least, so you're right, that's not OK. But if my neighbor down the street wants to believe whatever he wants to believe, that is fine—so long he doesn't use it to pick my pocket or break my leg. I guess I'm just someone who thinks the world would be in a much better place if people believed in facts and evidence rather than 2,000 year old fairy tales. That doesn't apply to only politicians or the neighbor down the street but essentially everybody over the age of 12.

I don't think most of these congresspeople give a **** about religion, but they'll pretend to be religious to get votes, maintain power and pick your pocket or someone's picket.

I think that's true of many of them, but I also think many others are true believers which, in my own opinion, makes them even more dangerous. I blame the schools. Of course, to me believing in economic fairy tales like Reagonomics should be just as disqualifying to be a Congresscritter because it's just as damaging. And TBH there a lot of overlap between the two.

Accepting facts isn't exactly falling "in step" with a belief system, it's simply an acceptance of reality. The more people accept the world around them and how they came to be, the less likely they would be to believe in silly fairy tales that cause them to engage in hate and violence towards others who don't accept their falsehoods. But hey, you enjoy church this weekend, be sure to try the grape juice and crackers. I used to love those when my parents would force me to go to church with them when I was 12. If you're not going to chastise that person publicly, then don't try doing it with me. Also, if you're free to call me an asshole then right back act you buddy. But I was shy and introverted at that age, so: Atheist by 11. Agnostic before then (who knows anything before that age...?). I guess I was also a "Catholic-in-training" before that age.... but obviously the training didn't take. And Confirmed Roman Catholic. That's all on my "resume". It didn't change anything. And like I said... no grudges. It went in one ear... and right back out the other anyways. Hope that doesn't offend anyone...
