2022 MLB Draft

I'd start Jung in left field.  And then first base or DH would be the fallback plan.  I would rather sacrifice a bad fielder in left field than at second baseman.  I am sure the Tigers will start him at second or third though.  Like they did with Torkleson, which was a waste of time.

His brother was taken #8 by the Rangers 3 years ago. Very similar numbers for both of them at college. His brother is tearing up the minors .

I remember when we drafted Tork somebody posed a question on the old board if we'd be ok if he ended up like Paul Konerko. The over whelming response was we'd be disappointed(myself included) now how many of us would kill for that outcome? That's not to say that Tork still can't surpass that comp but you start to temper your expectations the longer he is part of your system and you see him more.

Perhaps it's better that his last name was Jung, rather than Freud (or worse - depending on what direction you want the psychology jokes to go)

No, he's playable at second, he's not cringeworthy on defense like Jacob Berry, it's just not a plus.

Fangraphs compared him to Micky Tettleton, due to the way he holds the bat almost parallel to the ground in his setup.

I haven’t really paid much attention to this draft because (1) I normally don’t and (2) the rebuild is over.  I don’t like taking a DH either.  Sure, they talk about sending him to LF or 1B, but if he can’t run, he’s a liability in LF.  And Torkleson is the 1B for the future despite a rough rookie season.  I suppose he could end up being trade fodder.

On the other hand, I’ll have to call out my own ignorance because I really don’t know what the better option was.  Perhaps this was the last pick of this certain tier of players, and the remaining players are just not as good.  That seems doubtful, but it’s possible.

He's not necessarily a DH.  It's just that when I hear red flags about a prospect's defense he usually winds up being a bad defender.  We'll see.

Not really.  They said he was a decent defender, who would start off in center, but might end up in a corner.  There was never any talk about him being stiff and slow and maybe not having a position.
