2024 Presidential Election thread

I wonder if the kids would do better on a civics test than adults.  They probably just learned about that stuff in social studies classes.  Sure, a lot of them forgot everything they learned already, but adults are even further away.

Here are the 100 questions that can be asked on the civics exam for people being naturalized.  Skimming through it, almost all should be common knowledge for anyone over the age of 18 but there are around 5 or 6 questions I would have had trouble with if not prepping.

She's been doing that on the trail for a while.   I've heard her doing that before om Cspan.

I guess that's good, I just can't believe she won't backtrack it in a minute if she sees a new path.

Unrelated I saw a comment that Hutchinson and Burnum looked too competent to be seriously considered for the GOP.  Sad, but true.

More than 5 or 6 for me.  All the answers are immediately obvious when I look at them though.  I'd study ahead of time, but probably 20 minutes would be enough.

Random thought:

Republican's claim any election they don't win is rigged. The reality is, every presidential election is inherently rigged in favor of Republicans. The electoral college is blatantly skewed to favor the GOP, and its just accepted. So not only is it ridiculous to claim the Democrats rig elections in their favor, the objective truth is that every Presidential election gives the GOP a head start the Dems must overcome, and thats just how it is.

This 100%. If every vote counted the same, the GOP would never win another national election.

The Electoral College was probably relevant when voting was limited to white male landowners. Also when Electors were appointed by state legislators. It became irrelevant when states decided electing those who actually voted for the office of President and Vice President a popularity contest.

I challenge anyone who still supports this archaic system to name his or her elector the past three Presidential elections.

I bet less than 1% of the voting population even comes close.

It's richly ironic how right wingers defend the Electoral College by saying that without it, the east and "left" coasts would decide all the presidential elections and make their votes irrelevant, when of course with the Electoral College only a few states like Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Georgia, and maybe North Carolina will decide the presidential elections and make the rest of our votes just as irrelevant.

Some will refuse to believe it.

Dems didn’t acknowledge this until it was too late in 2016.  The public sees crime as a matter of smoke must mean fire.  The Clinton pattern of behavior and all the investigations produced the Trump presidency.  Ironically,  Trump should face his 4th electoral defeat for the same reason in 2024.

Because they don’t view the coasts as real Americans. How many times have right wingers posted those maps of counties in red/blue, as if land votes.

Yup this is why Trump always wants investigations started, regardless of their veracity.   He tried to get Zelenskyy to start one, and its part of Jack Smiths charges for the election malfeasance

And was impeached over that.  Which for any other media environment would have been deal-breaker.

If they think retirement age should be attached to life expectancy, shouldn't it go down since life expectancy is going down?

Seriously, although I am not rooting for it, I actually don't think raising the retirement age would be drastic.  Cutting the amount we would get after paying into it our whole lives would be a lot worse.

I think it might be related to shutting off immigration, which is already affecting the ability to fill jobs. Someone’s gotta flip those burgers or put up that drywall or drive those Ubers. Might as well be the olds.

which makes zero sense because in the case of the trades, those people who do it are in bad shape by the time they hit their 60's.  25 years of crouching on the floors does horrible things to your back.

The GOP though wants to sustain their servant class.

How are they gonna get their servants if they don't import them? I mean, yeah, they're purposely raising a bunch of under-educated kids incapable of critical thinking who can fill that role, but that's not gonna be for another ten or fifteen years. What are they gonna rely on in the meantime? 😏
