I guess somebody could try to explain to him that some people want to try to leave the world a little bit better-not because they expect to get something out of it, but because they have empathy and kind hearts. Then again, I suspect that whole concept is foreign to him.

I was just coming in to post that I will bet a dollar that over the weekend Trump kicks JD to the curb for the humiliation he is bringing to the campaign. Not because of the Diet Mountain Dew racism crack, or the cat lady crack, or the people with children should get more say crack, but strictly because of the couch-****ing meme. Trump doesn't care if people are enraged at him, but he definitely cares if people are laughing at him.

Once he does boot Jorkin off the ticket, Mrs. Emhoff should hammer Agent Orange for his inability to figure out who the "Best People" are.

I remember reading his book back in 2016 and 2017 and thought it was interesting enough.... he didn't *seem* like a bad guy. Not trying to whitewash anything per se, but I would have been surprised if you'd have told me eight years later that this is who he'd be.

The degree to which he so quickly changed his views after deciding to become to run for the Senate Seat in Ohio was such a red flag. Just 180'd on so many things. The most charitable answer to this is that he's trying to play the role that is required of someone subservient to Trump in this GOP culture and is just coming across awkward, but the other possibilities here (including that this is just who the guy is, or that he just doesn't have any true beliefs and will just say anything for power) seem more likely here.

I remember watching the movie, being bored out of my mind, and asking myself who the hell directed this mess, Ron Howard or Clint Howard?

I'm going to go ahead and admit that I never read the book, so I can't say whether or not he sounded like a bad guy.

I think we've all seen what people will do and say in order to gain and hold on to power-this has always been the case but has become more obvious in the age of social media.

As much better a man as John McCain succumbed to the need to stroke the GOP crazies,  abandoning much of the centrism that made him popular enough to have been in a position to run in the first place, and he was several levels of class above the GOP's current cast of clowns. It's the Devil's calculus whereby you persuade yourself that you make the compromises to win an election but then you'll be different. But once you sell your soul they all find out there is no easy way back. IIRC, somebody one said something relevant about wide and narrow roads....

Mitt Romney is another example - I've said some charitable things lately about him, but he had to shapeshift *a lot* during that 2012 Election to appease the more extreme views of the GOP. It just goes with the territory.

I think the bolded is what makes today a lot different. "Evolving" or "flip flopping" has always been a feature of this game, but the degree to which ambitious pols (particularly in today's GOP) will entirely change their persona in the pursuit of power and the degree to which it is just sorta priced in (ie. "that's just politics") is really breathtaking to me.

Aside from JD Vance, the other one I'd put in this category is Elise Stefanik.... after the heel turn she made, in a logical world, she would never be taken seriously or believed ever again. But it's not a logical world, is it?

Bernie Sanders is back to being Bernie Sanders.

I had the pleasure (?) of knowing several 'Bernie Bros' in 2016, and they seemed more interested in getting 'revenge' (for what I don't know) against Clinton than in defeating Drumpf. There was even one coworker who pointedly said that as a white man, he 'didn't have to worry about anything anyway.'

As for Sanders, if he wants Harris to win, wouldn't it be more productive for HIM to speak forcefully about how much better she will be for the working class, and everything that the Biden administration has been working on for almost 4 years?

FTR.... I have always liked a lot of Sander's positions. I just wonder how people who claim to want him for President would prefer a Drumpf victory over somebody who is far closer to him in policy stances.

The point was that it was an official release from the Harris campaign. Me typing it does not capture this was a press release.

And why the **** do I even need to explain myself to you?

Frankly, I think you’d have a difficult time of it if you tried.

The unleashed Harris team is something we have been waiting for for nearly 10 years of the Trump era.    Won't debate: its because you are scared.   Make crap up about the economy or abortion:  we see your search history of tentacle porn.   You esouse weird views:  you freaks are weird and represent the craziest sludge in the cousin-loving, dolphin-lusting gene pool.
