If Trump is on track to lose, he has moreincentive to declare victory tomorrow night. Work backwards from Trump’s perspective: He needs to keep his supporters bound to him and he wants to continue to own the Republican party.¹

Having spent the previous four years insisting that he won in 2020 and that he cannot lose in 2024 unless he is cheated again, conceding defeat would be taken by his supporters as a personal betrayal. So he can’t do that.

Further, he has already primed his supporters to expect a stolen election after they have spent the last year being utterly confident that Trump would win. At the Madison Square Garden rally, Tucker Carlson even hung a number on Harris’s expected vote total, saying that no one should believe that she could get 85 million votes.

So if the early results suggest that Harris is headed toward probable victory, I would expect Trump to come out with accusations of fraud and assertions that he won sooner rather than later.

Also, Trump has to set a party line early, before any elected Republicans admit that Harris won. If Trump gets out early, then MAGA-loyal politicians will run with it, putting pressure on other Republicans down the line to either support the Big Lie 2.0 or stay silent.

The US is not a banana republic quite yet. Trump doesn't control enough of the media. If he starts claiming victory before any non-Fox media call it it's not going to be taken seriously He'd literally have to come out and incite to riot to try to stop the counting to make a impact, and I don't see that working even if he tried. And if he did Biden would be glad to have him arrested. Plus the group of hard core dead enders that were most likely to have responded are still in jail over 1/6.

Most of the ads here seem to be aimed at NH.

If nothing else, we need to reform the electoral college so we can spread the anxiety more equally.

Yes, If I hear one more Ayotte/Craig commercial, I'll scream.

If this is a free and fair election, I have pretty high confidence Kamala beats Trump.

My fear is that one of the lawsuits makes its way to the Supreme Court and they find a way to install him in the White House regardless of the vote—or least make a ruling to that effect, which might lead to something like a collapse of the government, because such a ruling would require full compliance with the ruling by the system for it to work, and that might not be forthcoming, and if that were to happen, then it’s all hell all the time.

if the Dems take the House things will certainly be less at play and that should put an end to it. If a suit went to SCOTUS I imagine Harris and Jeffries would call Roberts in for a little chat and ask him if he really thinks a bad ruling or even the future of his court could stand if both the other branches utterly reject it. Roberts and probably Barrett, are not that crazy. If there is a GOP House I wouldn't have the same level of  confidence.

Dixville notch is in: 3d-3r

the good news is 25% of Haley's GOP primary support went to Harris. The bad news is Harris underperformed Biden by 40%.

Nate Silver’s cautious final squeaker of a poll favors Harris. There are more women of all stripes in this country who are simply pissed off and not staying in the kitchen and obeying their men and keeping their mouths shut than there are Nazis, angry old men, pseudo patriot biker a-holes, shallow Internet influencer babes, and distorted incel losers and it’s going to make a bigger difference than even he thinks. Prepare to be pantsed GOP.

He said in his newsletter this was closer than a coin flip and Harris only came out on top because they run a Monte Carlo instead of a deterministic model.

Looks like I spoke too soon. Last night while watching the Food Network I saw a disgusting Drumpf commercial filled with lies about immigrants, crime, and the economy. I feel sick.

As I've said before, I work with a lot of immigrants that Drumpf likes to demonize-from Latin America and Haiti. They are good people, and hard workers.

You know what part of the MSG rally chilled me to the bone as much as the Puerto Rico joke? Miller and his "America is for America only!" speech.

Because this day somehow isn’t going to be painful enough, I’m going for a dental appointment to have a tooth filled, which will involve numbing that side of my face.

Then I’m supposed to meet a friend late afternoon - will we want to find a local bar that’s gonna make us some pumpkin martinis. My hope is that my face isn’t numb anymore ( drooling isn’t a great look), but my bigger hope is that they don’t have the stupid bar TV turn to any political station. We’ll catch up on family /friend bull****, then I’ll go home and make some of my own concoctions for the rest of the night, and watch something mindless.

I don’t think I’m gonna turn anything political on until maybe  1 o’clock in the morning right before try to fall asleep; and, I’m supposing falling asleep is going to depend on what I’m hearing.

drink the martini through a straw !

I go to the movies on election night.  Have done this since 2008 and the one time it went sideways (2016) I did not go to the movies.   Trying to figure out what to go see.    Slim pickins movie-wise.       That movie Here with de-aged Tom Hanks and Robin Wright looks awful.    Maybe Conclave?

No drinking tonight unfortunately, wife is having knee replacement surgery tomorrow. At least she can go in tomorrow and have enough pain pills to last a few days.
As a former reporter and newsroom manager she'll watch returns before heading to bed. I'll do mindless doomscrolling.

In honor of the election I'm wearing my "Madison" T-Shirt quoting part of Federalist 51. "If men were angels no government would be necessary"

I am about to go to a followup appointment for my foot, then I have a few errands to do before I come home and read a couple of books that I got from the library.

Sadly, when I'm anxious my stomach won't allow me to even eat very much, let alone drink. I haven't had a drink in more than a decade anyway, though.
