2024 Democrats are the red dot. Absolutely critical context to any postmortem.

I don't understand what this graph is trying to tell us. Can you elaborate?

All the incumbent parties in developed democracies lost in 2024 from the Democrats here to Macron's Ensemble in France to the Tories in the UK. Oddly enough in France, it was the far left New Popular Front coalition that received the most votes overall.

If you think I'm an extreme left compared to other people in Chicago, you definitely have spent no time with any people here.

Ha, I am in Chicago right now, technically River Forest. When I walked into CVS this morning all of the items in the isles are locked behind plexi glass walls that an employee had to unlock for me to buy contact solution. Why is that? The city I live in has nothing like that I wonder why?

Because River Forest is just as irrationally frightened of Chicago as all Trump people were taught by him to be? That's my guess. Here in the actual city, contact solution is out in the open.

Killers and rapists and gangsters and Ku Kluxers and child abusers are just some of the types who should not be allowed to raise their children as they see fit. YMMV on that.

You round up all the gangsters, killers and rapists in Chi-Town than we can tag team the Klan, deal?

I'm not talking about rounding up the Klan members in your town, so don't fret about that. I'm not talking about rounding up anyone. That's your party's deal.

I don't know how you leapt to that—I assume as a distraction from the actual point to change the focus to some fantastic persecution of conservatives instead—but everyone else here can see what we were (or at least what I was) actually talking about, which is rescuing children from abusive parents, so I'm not chasing your laser pointer.

Man, you need to meet more people.

I think you are. Not extreme left in the Chicago sense, or maybe this board sense, but yes.

For all I know, I am. I know I am relative to some social circles down here.

This is important - it is incredibly popular to sit and pick apart why this has happened (literally everybody and everyone applies their own prescribed reason), but if I had to place a percentage on it, this is at least 80% of why this happened (versus actual campaign tactics, flaws and / or erosion among demos).

I don't think people want to discuss this though because picking apart campaign tactics, candidate flaws and / or erosion among demos provides more material for pundits and observers alike over "this environment really sucks for governing parties right now"

Lets do a little math, everyone:

2024 MICHIGAN SENATE RACE

  • Elissa Slotkin Raw Vote Total: 2,690,782
  • Mike Rogers Raw Vote Total: 2,673,747

2024 MICHIGAN PRESIDENTIAL RACE

  • Kamala Harris Raw Vote Total: 2,715,809
  • Donald Trump Raw Vote Total: 2,800,060

Difference between Harris/Slotkin: +25,027 Harris

Difference between Trump/Rogers: +126,313 Trump

[126,313 - 25,027] = 101,286 votes

Margin of victory in Michigan for Donald J. Trump in 2024: 84,251 votes.

---------------------------------------------------------------

There'll be a lot of questions about how Dems pulled out all these close Senate races despite Trump winning, but this is why. And again, it raises a lot of interesting questions about future election cycles... especially considering this will be the last time Trump's name will be on a ballot.

So the common person wants a person who walks out on the waitress without paying the bill or leaving a tip? Trump has stiffed contractors time and again. He's ripped off thousands of people with scam charities, scam "colleges", and scam items he's sold. So the common person wants a con artist?

I'm answering your post because you bring up one point that has puzzled me ever since he first started running in 2015. Please bear with me.

Unfortunately, it appears that the pro-Drumpf groups were extremely successful in getting out misinformation (about open borders, for example) and making it less likely for Harris's messages to get out. For example some of the messages I've seen from Harris, that either didn't get to the right audiences or if they did a big part of the audience either didn't believe or didn't care:

-Harris did have plans to help first time homebuyers-I don't know exactly how or if she would have addressed the real problem of foreign investments in US farmland.

-there were commercials addressing Drumpf's habit of stiffing people-actually I saw some in 2016. I don't remember seeing them this year, though TBF I didn't see many commercials at all until a few days before the election. And no matter how many times I bring it up, not one person has been able to give me a reason that somebody with 6 bankruptcies and multiple business failures is a genius at business.

-on immigration.... the wall has been being constructed during Biden's term, and while I do not know exact numbers I do know that arrests at the southern border have also continued throughout his term. The 'Deporter in Chief' was the nickname given to Obama by immigration support groups, and while I haven't seen anybody refer to Biden as such, these groups aren't thrilled with Biden's record either.

-one thing that the Biden administration has tried to do is to tackle the root cause of illegal immigration. This can only be done by helping countries (that ask for help deal via such programs as the Peace Corps) with the problems that lead to people who are leaving them.

The issues have been addressed, we need to find a way to get through to people more effectively.

Unfortunately, we will never get through to people who *claim* the economy is their #1 issue, but who really don't want to vote for a woman/black/insert other group here.
