I'm not sure if calls were necessarily made, but I think Biden himself made sure of it by effectively pledging a hundred million dollars and a fully staffed campaign to her 107 days before the election and just a few weeks before ballots are being printed.

None of Whitmer, Newsome, or anyone else for that matter had the infrastructure or means that would have been necessary to even mount an attempt at that point. And to try and fail is a surefire way to commit career suicide at the national level.

This.... his endorsement helped, but the reality is that none of them wanted anything to do with challenging her because the risks would have far exceeded any reward.

It's a big reason why there was never a real challenge to Biden once he decleared reelection.... the risk reward math just didn't add up.
