2024 Presidential Election thread

Today's events has to have Trump fuming. Nobody is talking about yesterday's Trump Show.

JVL has a good description of Trump's approach. He's taking a page out of Pro Wrestling and is playing the heel. It's what he is and what he does best. Yesterday's "interview"with Black Journalists is what is called cheap heat. Trump has been playing second fiddle in the news reports the last couple of weeks. Between the Biden drama, Ms Harris' ascent in the Presidential race and JD and his cat ladies remarks, Trump was not the center of the political world and he hates it. Probably more so today with the Russian prisoner swap.

Can't read the second part of the article because it's behind the paywall, but in terms of the question asked, I'm not clear why Kamala Harris has to respond. Other than to do what she did yesterday in her speech in Houston: "same old story" and "the American people deserve better than this"

She has to play *her* game.... she doesn't have to play his, to the extent there's an actual strategy in anything he said.

That's basically the strategy he's recommending. Don't get into the mud with him

Quote

How should Harris respond to this mess? By waving it away as more of the past. “We’ve seen this movie before. We’re not going back.”

Don’t be defensive. Be dismissive.

Don’t be outraged. Be energized.

In order for Kamala Harris to win the kind of popular margin she needs, she has to lean all the way into The Future. Everything about Trump—from Project 2025, to his VP, to Dobbs, to this incident—should be hung on the framework of The Past.

She’s building a new coalition for voters who are marching into the future and turning the page on 30 years of Boomer presidents.

I do flip off every house with a Trump sign as I drive by.   It might be imature, but it makes me feel better.    I'd put a Harris sign in my yard, but I fear my tires might get slashed.

I did get a chuckle the other day out of a house with a Trump/Pence sign in their front yard, but with red tape crudely placed over the P and E in Pence’s name to make it Trump/VAnce.

The boss wouldn’t appreciate that. He wants your MONEY, not your support.

She’s too seasoned a prosecutor to sling mud with a defendant.

Seasoned prosecutors love to sling mud, they just hit with a jab, take the point, and keep moving.  Biden's quip about Trump/Whelan is the type of mud slinging I hope to see from Harris.   I don't want her to focus her entire strategy on it, but take the opportunities when they come.

I know this is serious business for the competitors, but I can't help the amusement because these arguments are so futile. There are no right answers. You have gender, as how a person self-identifies, you have biological sex, as in what reproductive organs a person was born with, and then you have genetic sex, as in what chromosomes/genes a person is born with. And guess what? The three can either "align" or "mis-align" in every possible way. In the end, things like who should compete against whom is going to be a judgment call with a high level of arbitrariness involved. No matter what is decided, it will be unjust for someone - because we have to have those boxes that nature refuses to play neatly in.
