I don't know if it was someone up thread here or I saw it somewhere else tonight, but the observation was that Trump is no longer trying to win so much as trying to make sure he still has a hardcore movement behind him if he loses. He's making such a wanton and dissolute case to his fans to make sure they have nowhere else to go the get that kind of fix but to him.

Everything about that MSG rally was an unmitigated disaster. All the viral clips are not working in their favor. I'm all for comedians being protected with free speech and being able to tell jokes without censorship. However, when nearly every joke was racist, xenophobic, Islamaphobic, or antisemitic, you might want to reconsider your career in comedy if that's all you got. And to let that guy go on stage and tell those jokes is incredible. Whatever staffer cleared that is a total moron.

He was sorta, kinda, albeit in a more coherent fashion, making this type of case at the end of the 2016 election when he thought he could lose. In spite of that attitude, he still got the win. Many Americans won't see just how unhinged he's gotten now and they won't see the MSG debacle. They'll remember positive things about the economy or get scared on immigration and vote for him anyways.

It is not acting like and does not look like a winning campaign. Obviously we heard similar things during 2016, but he actually was seen as *losing* then... fast forward to today, and they are, at least by most election models and polling, considered slight *favorites* right now. Yet they don't look like a campaign that is trying to win.

I wonder if the stuff they have internally is as rosy as the public stuff we see. We'll find out in 9 days or so.

Trump also won a lot of suburban votes in 2016 that he'll never win again.

It was a different electorate, please just let it go. If he wins this time, it will not be related in any way, shape or form to that election.

All of our Arab-American, Palestinian-American, and Muslim-American friends need to see this ****. I've been critical on how the Biden-Harris administration has handled the war in Gaza, but this is proof that it can and likely will get worse for Palestinians in Gaza.

I've never been able to say this eloquently enough, but this is right... it's been right for a long long time. And it explains why they never seem to get political coverage of any of these elections right.

there was time I thought it absurd that the Trump campaign would kill a couple of people to get re-elected, but after the last two weeks I really don't have a doubt left they would.

Democrats need to tone down the rhetoric don't ya know.

Three things:

  • The loathsome way he spit out the phrase “Jew haters” makes you wonder which side he’s really on.
  • This sounds like the kind of language that’s a precusor to a purge.
  • Betcha that callers on Washington Journal this morning will say he’s kidding.

I have no doubt they would do it if they could get awy with it.  I don't think they would take the risk though.

Trump is trying to win. This is exactly how they think they will turn out low-engagement young white male voters, the exact kind of people that would love to go door to door rooting out and murdering Democrats. This is the one wild card that could hand him victory.

NE-1 is pretty close too.

Hasn't that district been redone since 2020? Not sure that 7 vs 12 comparison is apples to apples and don't trust partisan twitter accounts to parse that.

IIRC the district was actually made more red after redistricting, although not sure whether the 7 represents old district lines or not.

Either way, all evidence suggests he's going to get his clock cleaned in Omaha.

That’s what I thought as well. I can’t imagine the republican legislature would have made it bluer and put a republican congressman at risk. If Harris is doing well in this district, which is as white suburbia as it gets, what does it mean for places like the Milwaukee suburbs?

I am open to the idea the last minute push to change Nebraska's EC allocation may be part of the story and may make a shift toward KH more pronounced perhaps.

I do imagine she will end up doing at least a couple of points better in Waukesha County though

Punching down is a core conservative value.

That would explain the off-color sex related jokes, too. I personally expect better from people, not just white men, but sigh.

We've already found that Drumpf can get away with stuff others have not. Remember when Kerry made that stupid comment about people with less education getting stuck in Iraq? He was roasted for that-rightfully so-but from Drumpf it's said to make him 'tough and telling it like it is.'
