I don't know if he himself has officially called them Nazis, but...

I do have a few connections on FB who are MAGAts, who post memes comparing Nazis with Democrats, and who regularly call them socialists and/or communists.

I remember a while back somebody from the old board from the UK, who described himself as a real Socialist, saying that to him Obama was very right wing (was his handle Blue Square Thing, maybe?).

I'm pretty sure that there are an awful lot of people out there who really have no idea what Socialism and Communism are.

Right. BST pretty much used to say an American wouldn’t recognize a real socialist if one walked up and bit him.

IIRC, BST's name was Ian, so my guess is that it's not the same person.

Ok, I recall that BST was a fan of the term "loonspuddery" which was amusing.

early vote numbers don't tell me much, by themselves, at this point because it just means people are more used to it and maybe voting centers are better at doing it and word gets around how easy it is.  In 2020 early voting was politicized to a degree it's not today.  Yea some R's still grumble about it but they're doing it more than they did in 2020.  You also have the covid angle where the macho/dont tell me what to do/masking is for wimps crowd thinking EV was once again something overly cautious sheep did and real men vote on election day.

Obviously turnout could be higher this year, it wouldn't shock me and I expect it, but it's not the early vote numbers that is proving that to me that right now.  I don't see it as evidence of anything yet.

According to Janice Winfrey, turnout could surpass 2008. Detroit has already been returning ballots at a high rate.

I hate to say this, but Winfrey says **** that ends up not being true. I'd love to believe she is right, but I don't believe her.

She was right in 2022. She said turnout was going to be down.

I unfollowed Jed because he posted too much stupid stuff on Twitter.  He is nothing like BST at all.  BST was witty.  He also never posted in the Tigers forum and JED rambles about the Tigers constantly.  Not the same person.

My view on Early Vote Numbers is that while they aren't all that meaningful to the average person, I do think people in campaigns or in elections administration positions can use that data to make informed reasonable judgments. Ie. People who do this **** for a living.

I don't know if Winfrey is ultimately correct here, we'll find out in a few days. (She was more or less in the ballpark in 2020 IIRC). But I doubt that she has incentive to make statements that she doesn't believe to be accurate, especially on a subject like this.

my comment had nothing to do with Winfrey.  It was more of a response to the tweet about Georgia surpassing numbers "at this point" in 2020.  I don't understand why that's newsworthy.

I think the only thing I can say with some certainty is that the voting numbers are, for sure, Going to be higher than they were in 2020.
Some part of me says substantially higher.

And, my gut feeling is just that this plays better for the Harris side of the equation. We’ll see.

People think of Socialism the same way they think about Cancer.   Like they are one thing.   They are far from it.  Cancer is not a disease, it's a class of hundreds of diseases that behave in a similar way.   There can't be a "cure for Cancer" because there are so many different Cancers.   The "cure" for one cancer will do next to nothing for another one.

Socialism is the same way.      There are many different shades of it.    A lot of people who are Anti-Socialist have gotten unemployment benefits, welfare, medicare, stimulus checks and have no idea that those are Socialism.    If you want them to put their money (literally) where their mouth is - then send back those benefit checks.   Of course they won't.

You can even go to the length that passing any law is a form of Socialism because if we were absolutely not Socialism at all - it would be okay to steal from anyone or harm them.    Sovereign Citizens like to think of themselves as some sort of purist - until someone tries to steal from them and then they call the cops.   Frauds.

Got it... I suppose that second paragraph was better addressed to another poster.

There isn't anything really specific about early voter turnout that I think is important, but I do think better / larger turnout in these bigger cities, particularly in the blue wall, is meaningful. Certainly in terms of early voting some of it may be cannibalizing as Oblong has suggested, but I doubt that it's entirely explainable in that way. In Detroit's case, maybe some of it is that recent law changes have just made it easier for Detroiters (and Michiganders) to vote, which would naturally just lead to a higher turnout.

Overall, if someone came from the future and told me that Milwaukee, Detroit and Philadelphia each saw their overall turnout increase by 2-3% versus 2020 and asked me who I thought would win Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania respectively, it'd be pretty easy to respond "Harris"

Totally.  Despite the anti trump fever in 2020 there were still quite a bit of people who had the “this is the best we can do?” that no longer think that.  Niki Haley was right during the primary when she said whichever side replaced their old guy would win.

Despite being on the ticket as VP I think Harris is going to pull in black and female voters that didn’t vote previously for various reasons.   That’s just a gut feeling.

Good analogy.

Another point people don't seem to get is that both Socialism and Communism are not forms of government, but economic systems.

On the topic of welfare-in addition to your points my guess is many people think Corporate welfare is just fine.

Less than a week until the election and you would expect Trump to be campaigning in a swing state right? No, he’s currently in New Mexico and claiming he won it. Twice.

DIdn't you know? Unless he wins all 50 states it means people cheated.
