It's not just that, many of them remember a time when they couldn't get a credit card or mortgage without a man to cosign. I believe other bank accounts were off limits to them also. I'm seeing that this is the 50th anniversary of women being able to obtain these things.

A little bit longer than 50 years ago, these women had MORE freedom. Is this where MAGA wants American women to go?

I've seen similar pictures of young women in Afghanistan. They should be a warning. But... denial is not just a river.

And yes, that is exactly what MAGA wants.

Trump said Elon Musk is going to be in charge of cutting government spending. He said that he's having a role in his admin for Elon to monitor government agencies and spending. Musk then came out and said he wants $2 TRILLION in spending cuts to federal spending. There is no way you can cut $2 TRILLION in federal spending without touching social welfare programs like Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, S-Chip, TANF, and on. They are going to defacto cut Social Security by jacking up the retirement age and making it harder for people to qualify for SSID (disability benefits).

I like Paul Krugman's metaphor about this - he says people should visualize the Federal Government as an insurance company with an army.

In the end I'll be surprised if there is any sampling method that is going to be that much better, The reason being that in a US election survey, fundamental assumptions of statistics are already violated before you even start and it's just getting worse as time goes by.

They do.

I'm Gen X.

Every Gen X person I know regardless of race, color, creed, sex, whatever are voting for Trump.

40-60 is generally the most conservative part of a person's lifetime - mostly for economic reasons. They have gotten settled and feel the most at risk of losing ground: to taxes, or being forced to share the value of their productivity 'unjustly' with anyone else, or having the value of their property at risk by changes in housing patterns, etc. It's the age of maximum  social/political rigidity and that is where the X'er are.

Given Trump's proposals to break a lot of economic china, this could actually work against him with Gen X

Wow. Talk about a total overstatement. And an incorrect assumption. My son and all of his friends are Gen X and they would help drive Trump to his prison cell. Nice try though. If you're gonna lie, make it a big outrageous one.

We just had a small family gathering, my wife, her sister and daughter, and our son. The only Trump supporter in the conversation is my niece's boyfriend (who wasn't with us). He recently received his US citizenship papers (he's from Mexico)

He was having trouble filling out his mail-in ballot in NC. My neice refused to help him. Of course this was happening when he kept calling while we were all busy doing other things.

Sounds like your nieces boyfriend will not be in the picture too long lol.

I've always wondered about Gen X being politically conservative, which in my age group was because so many liked Reagan because of his personality (and because he was in office as we were coming of age). And yet, we've suffered just as much as other generations as a result of the trickle down economics he made popular.

Maybe more of us needed to be reminded that many of the things we women took for granted were not available to them. My parents made sure we knew not only about that but about how hard life was for people in the 1930s and earlier. Come to think of it, my father did a lot of work around the house and with us as he had a job that allowed him to be home more. I think a lot of my peers didn't talk about these issues with their parents. I'm curious to know if others had that experience.

Also The Ronz seems to be surrounded by awful people, and needs to move. Though I wonder if any of them claiming to vote for Drumpf will actually vote for Harris-I haven't seen much but I've seen enough to know it's possible.

Ditto the Nates, the polls just can't confidently give us an idea of what happens this week, for a variety of reasons.

I can accept this at face value, the problem is that, at least with the Nates, they have both to varying degrees used polls and crosstabs to make broad sweeping commentary about the electorate and the changes within.

Haven't seen from Silver, but Cohn is hedging big time and basically saying "nobody knows nothin'"... that's contradictory IMO

The couple times I've met he seems like a nice guy. Helps out a lot around her and her elderly parents houses. He seems to hold a lot of what I assume are traditional Hispanic values especially around the household duties of men and women.

If I disowned family members who disagreed with me politically, family gatherings would be boring. We don't discuss politics but some branches thrive on chaos

Somehow, if and when this era passes we're all going to have to try our best to come back together after being driven apart by all of this rhetoric. When this happens I don't know, and will depend on what happens on Tuesday.

I can only say it won't be easy, and all the junk 'news' out there might make it impossible. I hope not.

I'm around a lot of Latin families, and the men are very hands on both in taking care of the house and of the children.

Of course I could be in a Borg-generated world that happens to be the opposite of where Ronz lives.

I guess he does things like repairs and yard work. I think he works in the landscape industry (she's a nurse). He doesn't cook or clean house.

My girlfriend told me today that her (Massachusetts liberal) parents have a new favorite phrase when they are stressing that Trump is going to win: "(MichiganCardinal) says everything is going to be okay."

She says they think I'm just the token Midwest white dude so I probably know what's up.

If I didn't hope I was correct in my predictions before I sure do now!!

We're pretty doom and gloom here, because a Drumpf win could be a big disaster for MA-and it's really stressful to know that our future could depend on how the people in about 7-8 states vote.

Even with all of its faults MA is a really great place to live.

NEW — Another scoop and an interesting update on the Elon Musk's voter turnout operation in Michigan.

The entire group of Black, mostly out-of-state door knockers got fired with hours of the @WIRED U-Haul article dropping on Wednesday. New story includes:

- One of the door knockers from Florida going on the record about her experience
- A harrowing escape
- The first on-the-record acknowledgement of the seatless vans from the subcontractor
- Door knockers left stranded in Michigan & without pay, until... (read all the way to the end, trust me)

A Trump win will not be good for my job security or the security of anyone whose job depends on a competent government.

Massachustts is indeed a great place to live.
