"Macon, GA - Herschel Walker will introduce Trump at his rally tonight in GA, a source tells me.

The former NFL player ran for Senate and lost to Raphael Warnock."

Incredible

Maybe Trump and Walker will be rolling out his plan for affordable childcare tonight.

I’m interested to hear this.  From what I read  he was always a Republican but kept it private due to the military.  When he returned from the war and was in their parade Truman, in the car with him, offered him the slot in 1948.  “It’s yours if you want it”. Ike wanted to make some money.  They had a falling out over Korea. They reconciled the day of JFK’s funeral when confusion left Truman without a car ride and Ike gave them a lift. Truman asked if he wanted to. Come up and have a drink and that was that.

will look as soon as i return from post-Lions ice cream

We will have to see what happens Wednesday, but honestly getting to the point where there's likely to be a reckoning in the polling industry regardless of what ends up happening.

Here's a story from canvassing today in Western North Carolina that is worth reading:

I went to a house somewhat off the beaten path. A woman around 40-years-old answered the door. I introduced myself, told her I lived about 25 minutes away, and told her I was out volunteering on behalf of Kamala Harris for president.

She told me that Kamala had her vote, but she's not sure about her husband, who is a lifelong Republican.

I asked if anything I might say to her husband could change his mind. She said she wasn't sure, probably not, and that he "comes from a family of hardcore Trumpers."

Right as I was saying "you never know," her husband comes outside.

He's the same age as her (and me).

Big old unkept beard. Tattoos up and down. Wearing a "protect the 2A" shirt that had some sort of big ass gun on it, and old baggy blue jeans.

He said, "What's all this about?"

I introduced myself to him. I told him I heard from his wife that he may be supporting Donald Trump and that's totally okay, but I'm curious why.

He told me he wasn't really sure, it's what his family has always done.

He asked me why I'm supporting Kamala Harris.

I told him about my views on taxation, abortion, and health care, and then also just the importance of having someone who wants to unite America and who is not a character-depraved asshole, which I think Donald Trump is.

He asked me why I think that of Trump. I told him about the racist remarks from the MSG rally, the pussy grabbing stuff, January 06, the signed bibles, and so on.

He looked me in the eye and said "You know what, you're right. I can't vote for that guy. He's a ****ing piece of ****."

(This is verbatim, his words not mine.)

I thanked him for giving me the time of day. I wasn't going to press him any further.

As I was walking away, he said, "Hey."

I turned around and he put out his hand. As we shook hands, he looked me in the eye and said "I am going to vote for Kamala Harris."

His wife was almost tears. He seemed to be too. Truly. Like this big ****ing weight was off this man's chest.

Needless to say, it was the highlight of my week.
It shows that people are decent. Yes, many people are low-information. But many are decent. And many people want what is best for America.

It's also a reason to keep knocking doors. There are more people like him out there 🇺🇸

I don't make maps or predictions anymore (2016 left a bitter taste in my mouth), but I think she's going to perform better in Michigan than any of the other swing states. Detroit is going to be a big factor in that.

Very worthy.  David French is not quite my political brand (too evangelical) but he's there with me on collective security, rule of law and the other normative things that the GOP coalition was about.   Fine article.  The story about Taft being a problem on NATO was really interesting.   I was against the Democrats in part because people like Ted Kennedy were in bed with the Sandinstas.  I'm all about the centripedal force bringing things back to the center.  I root for the general in Narcos who cannot be bought.  I'm an Elliot Ness man.  Whereas, Trump and his chaos commandos are centrifugal.  They spin things away from norms and toward the naked worship of power.

So Trump's strategy of ****ting on Detroit was not good?

So French says he talked Ike's granddaughter, who is curator of the Eisenhower archives. The story runs to the effect that leading into the '52 election,  Ike was deeply concerned about the fact that isolationism was already growing again in the US with the shadow of WWII barely in the rear view mirror. Both parties were offering him the nomination. So he went to talk to Taft, who was the odds on favorite to be the GOP nominee if Ike passed on the offer, and he asked Taft what he thought About NATO. Taft said he opposed it. That answer persuaded Ike he had to run as a Republican because as a GOP president, he could force the GOP into an outward facing foreign policy consensus with the Dems, control McCarthy (whom he hated) from the inside, and leave the isolationists without leverage in either party.

It's not the main point of French's essay but I found it the most interesting part, as we already know the rest of French's complaints about his ex-party all too well.

I knew avout the Taft/Ike rift but do not recall a meeting in my readings, I read two books that would have covered it.  That primary wasn’t the slam dunk I would have assumed as someone not alive then.

In a plot twist…. Taft during what would have been his first term.

That final Harris ad during the Lions game..woah.  Very good message.

If it's the one I saw, I definitely agree. Whatever happens, I think she and her campaign have done a good job. It's on the voters, now.

It's the same story over and over.  All the swing states are very close.  If the polls are right, then it's going to be a close election.  If they are not right and they are all wrong in the same directon (which makes sense), then it could be a big electoral victory for either candidate.  My head tells me that Harris would be the one being underestimated (Biden won in 20, insurrection, Roe vs Wade, better campaign by Harris) but I am not very confident about that.

One observation traveling back roads between Myrtle Beach and Raleigh, the areas with a preponderance of Trump signs also has a lot of unpicked cotton.

I have no idea what that signifies

I changed the margins on two states a little, but otherwise nothing changed from my last map. I hope it doesn't bite me in the ass.

Go vote! For the right candidate!
