I have zero truck with anyone criticizing Harris' campaign.  That was a centrist message delivered to all Americans.

My only real criticism would be they didn’t keep the hammer down on Trump’s age and health.    When Biden dropped out, Trump was alone staring in the mirror at all of the same questions about fitness and cognitive ability to lead.   He showed it even more in the past few months and the Harris campaign barely touched it.  That was a thought that needed to be much more on the minds of voters leading up to the election.

It’s hard to criticize the overall strategy of the campaign.  They were shocked like the rest of us at some of the inexplicable choices made by segments of the electorate.  How does it make any sense that a campaign that ran on deportations and a tighter border would have such strong support from Hispanics?  How could so many young black men eschew the black candidate for the one that was supported by the klan and white nationalists? How could so many educated suburban women not care enough about woman’s rights and health issues and not care enough to elect the first female president?   None of it makes very much sense.

I’m now confused on if it’s still possible to have a Democracy that is “by the people and for the people”, when the people are so easily fooled and manipulated.

Harris on average outrunning the rest of the states in the battleground states by margin of 1-2 points.

I accept what Tigeraholic is saying as his own perspective, but the fact that she's doing better where she was campaigning/spending money suggests to me that it wasn't how she campaigned, it was a general anti-incumbent environment that no alternate candidate was likely to fix

True, that seems to be the trend in the rest of the world also. Reminds me of yo-yo dieting, but with worse consequences.

Slotkin has pulled ahead now.

Bolden & Thomas won easily for MI Supreme Court

That's why I believe the problem is its a woman running for President.   Too many people still can't vote for a woman for office.     The Dems can't do this again in 2028 (if we aren't put under Martial Law by Trump & Flynn).

He is the first Republican to secure the popular vote since 2004. She was a terrible candidate, thats on the Democrats.

I don't think we are going to get lucky again and have Trump's incompetence and lack of focus save us.

Everything will be privatized as Musk and Co convince Trump he can skim off the top.

The Christofascists are not going to stop at just Bibles in school and Oberkfell being overturned.

The House and Senate and SC will all fall in line as billionaires consolidate wealth and power.

I don't think Trump cares about the ACA, but a lot of state level MAGAs wants to get rid of it, so they will bring a case to SC where it will be gutted and then die.

All regulations are on the chopping block as they cost Corporations too much money.

Yes, because in our hearts we're a racist, homophobic, xenophobic and sexist country.    That's exactly what we are.

If you didn't get everything you want in life it's THEIR fault.   The collective THEM.      Again, I won't be affected (unless the economy crashes) because I'm a 60 year old suburban white guy.   Very glad I actually OWN my house.

Now go deport everybody and watch prices go through the roof because of all the worker shortages.

Do it. Do it all. That's what we decided we wanted.

I'm not going to say she was a horrible candidate, but she also had a very short time to run.  Biden handed her the nominee, but he did her no favors in holding on too long and when she was the VP, keeping her out of the limelight.

Yup. Pour all our resources into finishing the wall. Put tariffs on everything.

I just don’t understand people. I don’t get how a majority of the nation can support such an evil bully and want to go through four more years of this, which will be much worst than the first time. It’s going to be some dark days ahead. Ronz was right.

Remember, this is the nation that kept it legal at the state level for people to own other people as property long after nearly every other western country had abandoned it. It is also the nation that allowed several of its states to become one-party fascist states with the explicit purpose of maintaining a de facto slavery through the Jim Crow black codes. Embracing fascism runs deep, very deep, in our blood, and we’ve never left it totally behind us.

Really?   What if they get the House too?    They will ram EVERYTHING through.

I can only go on history and it’s been proven time and time again that Donald Trump does very little of what he promises to do.

Oh, but these private companies can police themselves just fine.      Ask the people in Midland about that.     Ask the people in East Palestine, Ohio.   Ask the folks who lost everything at Love Canal.     No worries.

As far as this goes, we can only hope the incompetence runs as deep for the new administration as the first one, but if that’s not the case—if they are very competent at achieving their stated goals—then your assurances will fall flat.

Also, the House majority is likely to be really really thin... assuming they pull it out.

As we've learned this cycle, it's a really fractious caucus.

Holding onto MI/WI/NV in the Senate is a big win considering how everything played out last night

But he's going to surround himself with people who are really running things.   People like Michael Flynn.   Trump is just going to be the talking head.    They'll be smart enough to ram this **** through - if there is no resistance.    No more Constitutional scholars.    He'll probably have General Kelly hanged (if he can).

If they hold on to the house, Hakim Jeffries will be speaker, they will unite.   Because they have no other choice now.

Another thing this election has changed for the future will be the acceptance of online betting markets as a reliable predictor.

These markets have been calling this for over a year with barely any wavering.   Even when the polls were saying Harris,  the betting line may have moved but it never flipped from Trump.

I’m not sure they will replace polling as the main predictor but they are clearly no longer an afterthought anymore.

this is true. And Musk and others are not going to let it happen again.

Musk will probably be Sec. of Labor (the guy who says people who use their vacation time are weak)

Kennedy will probably get the CDC or Health & Human Services.

Can you imagine if another pandemic happens?   I'll be sure to wear my mask because there will be ZERO mask mandates and no effort to get a vaccine to the public.

Dr. Fauci should probably leave the country before January.   You know, the guy who served under both parties and had an impeccable record.   He (and his family) have to have 24/7 security now.

I think this is right.... it's just really hard for me to look at what happened last night and see how running, say, Gretchen Whitmer or Josh Shapiro, changes much. Maybe a little on the margins, maybe Bob Casey wins the PA Senate seat if Shapiro is the nominee, but this was a referendum on the last four years of Biden, and I think any other candidates would have faced considerable headwinds in this environment.

Also, if Biden had stayed in, this would have been much much worse. I think the switch, even if she isn't the ideal candidate, did provide some energy that helped in downballot races.
