Mr.TaterSalad
Well Trump wants to ban fluoride in water and end vaccine mandates for kids in school. I think my way forward will either be dental school or becoming a mortician.

In all seriousness dental hygiene is a good steady career that requires a lot less money and time than dental school.

Unless the plan is to some how eliminate all the Trump voters we all have to find a way forward. Watch your self-employed entrepreneurial class who voted for you because “he’s a businessman like me“ collapse and go out of business or lose their homes to medical bills they now can’t afford. See, I think they might actually regard this part in a completely different way: they don’t like entrepreneurs, because they represent a threat to the established billionaires who support Trump. So, to reduce the entrepreneur class, they make it as hard as possible to become one, and one way to do that is to tie healthcare insurance to employment, and make it too expensive to get it on your own. That forces people, especially those with families, to keep working for The Man instead of striking out to work for themselves. Threat mitigated. Will they lobby to dump chemicals into their water once they get there? Why can’t we just brush our teeth and rinse with a fluoride mouthwash? mtutiger
One thing that would be an interesting addition to the discussion is the noticeable break between Trump's performance and Senate candidates in this cycle, as well as the fact that in the House, Dems are performing well enough that it could potentially lead to an even smaller majority. There might be a signal there for Dems... some of it Trump related, but some of it also a recalibration of it's thinking on allowing for more heterodox thought within the caucus. I don't think it's a coincidence that two Trump district Ds with heterodox thought compared to the caucus (Jared Golden and Marie Glueskamp Perez), both thought to be in the upper echelon of endangered Ds, are likely to hold on in their races. I understand why this is uncomfortable, but this truly is a country, for better or worse, where culture seems to be downstream of politics. Working class politics isn't enough. North Carolina needs to be examined. Dems killed it there except for Harris.

The assumption has always been that young people would be more likely to vote Democrat, but I think young men who don't give a **** anout politics voted for Trump because he's a bad boy which they think is cool. It's the underdiscussed part of all of this that everyone wants to avoid - for as much as frail as Biden is and for as much people have worried about his cognitive health, Trump's comorbidities are so much worse. And the transparency that he has demonstrated with respect to his health has been nonexistent. Not a conspiracy theorist by any stretch, but observing him for all these years and how he operates, does anybody really think that he and/or anyone around him wouldn't try to cover up a stroke if it happened? mtutiger
The fact that fluoridation of water is potentially going to become a partisan issue (particularly if RFK Jr. ends up getting anything of responsibility in this administration) is incredibly depressing. EDIT: I do think that RFK Jr., assuming Jacky Rosen ends up winning in NV, would have a *very* tough time getting confirmed for anything.... but still even having the conversation is unnerving to me. I guess the decision-making is “streamlined“ but this model does not have a good track record historically. Dictatorships are the biggest government conceivable. Also, how can you LOVE “the constitution“ and support a candidate who essentially wants to get rid of it? You either have to be really duplicitous or so charged up with emotion that none of this stuff registers. They tell themselves they don’t think trump is actually going to do all the awful things he’s promising to do, because after all, he was in office for four years already and he didn’t do any of that back then, did he? Of course, that means they’re active supporting a man who they acknowledge is being dishonest when he talks about what he’s going to do once he’s back in office, which, I’m sure there’s a bible verse somewhere that gives them all cover on that. Probably somewhere in the Old Testament near the Cyrus thing.
