Amen! Priests, pastors, and members of clergy have raped and molested far more children then transgendered persons. Not to mention, the trans community hasn't spent billions of dollars, as the Catholic Church has, covering up child abuse, fighting to pay restitution to victims, and paying out settlements. I'd be far more worried if a priest walked into a men's bathroom than a transman.

Newsweek: The Catholic Church Has Paid Nearly $4 Billion Over Sexual Abuse Claims, Group says

If someone can find me an article or any research that shows that trans persons or pro-trans organizations paid out anywhere close to $4 billion dollars in settlements to victims of sexual abuse and child rape then I'd be glad to read it. Otherwise, kindly be quiet about what bathrooms a trans person uses.

And this $4 billion figure doesn't even count all the dollars spent trying to fight restitution payments to victims and fight lawsuits against the church. The Catholic Church spent years denying abuse was evening happening in their church and covered it up when they did. If anyone can provide me research that pro-trans organizations knowingly covered up sexual abuse or rape of children, as the Catholic Church and local Archdioceses did for decades, please share it with me. I'd be happy to read it. Otherwise, again, please kindly be quiet about what bathrooms a trans person uses.

Do men not realize they have been around gay and trans people their whole lives.  I went to a small school and found out for years I was changing and showering among two guys who were gay.  I don’t know what you do in bathrooms but I am not looking at other people. Twice within the lady year I have been to concerts where women ended up in the men’s room. I survived and they survived.

But why are we even mentioning this?  There’s no correlation between trans people and sexual assault on other people.

Why even bring it into a discussion… it kind of gives credence to their argument

We're mentioning this because MAGA thinks that trans people and drag actors behave inappropriately around children and put them in harms way, when there is no evidence they do. There is plenty of evidence that clergy and priests behave inappropriately around children and violate their innocence. I don't have kids, but if I did, I feel that they'd statistically be far safer around a trans person using the bathroom they feel most comfortable with, or attending a drag queen event, versus leaving them alone with a Catholic priest or other member of clergy.

We are at Trans men should be allowed to go into women’s restrooms because… The Catholics….

We are at trans men should be allowed to go into the restroom they feel comfortable using because they are human beings, there to use a bathroom, like the rest of us. The reason we're even having this discussion is because Republicans are freaking out over and trying to legislate what bathroom .6% of the population uses.

The Catholic Church comes into play because Republican politicians, like Nancy Mace, and activists are trying to infer that trans people do or would do inappropriate things around children. Which hasn't ever been proved to have happened at anything close to the scale of inappropriate behavior by Catholic priests and other members of clergy.

Nancy Mace could simply let the issue drop and let Sarah McBride just use whatever bathroom she feels comfortable using. But she started this whole issue with her unnecessary bill.

Remember you lecturing me about how African Americans are mad for all the reasons...

Don't remember this at all because it didn't happen...

Also a little disappointing to see, after all the effort put into trying to have a good faith conversation the other day on this subject, you just come out and completely mis-characterize all of it.

Hard to engage in good faith like this.

Also would rather have my kids be in a bathroom with a trans person than the President-Elect's first nominee for AG

The left also wants to work, make a living and not have their kids go to war.  They want everyone else to also have those same opportunities.

And... I'm guessing that many of the billionaire 'experts' (Drumpf, Musk, etc) have way softer hands than most liberals.

At the micro level (ie. not considering how we differ on actual policy), most all of us want the same things out of our lives as those we disagree with on this stuff.

I'll never forget the person I knew growing up ranting and raving about trans people being a threat to her children on Facebook, but her husband is in "the registry." Super bible thumpery.

Also, some of us who aren't die-hard Rs change our own oil and do most of our own car repairs, do our own projects around the house and have worked in physically demanding environments.

Has Trump installed a ceiling fan in his life or switched out the alternator in his car? Or changed a flat tire? Hell, has he even driven a car in the past 30 years???

Mace is a rape survivor. I see no one even acknowledges that. Maybe she does not like the idea of a man being in a room without cameras and locking stall doors. A man pretending to be a woman overrides an actual woman’s right to pee with just women.

You would acknowledge that a non-trans male could easily breach any restroom at any Walmart or Target in the United States without being noticed, correct?

If she truly had some kind of trauma from rape to do such a thing then being in congress in general and hanging out with Matt Gaetz and slobbing alll over DJT throws that theory out the window.

Mace is also a performance artist whose entire MO since entering Congress is finding new ways to draw attention to herself. It's hilarious to see how people will wrap themselves around the axle going after the Eric Swalwell types in the D Party who will then turn around and take Nancy Mace at face value.... they are literally cut from the same cloth.

It's horrible that she had to endure being raped; it just doesn't change the nature of who she is and the persona she has cultivated in her official capacity. And criticism of that is completely fair game.

A year or so ago our college changed the signs on the restrooms to "Men" and "Gender Exclusive." Last year about this time, a late afternoon class, so not as many at the school in our wing, I had a women who was around 50 I'm guessing. We were walking out around 6:45 and she told me she wanted to go to the bathroom before she had to drive all the way home, but was afraid to go in the bathroom.

What do you tell her?
