Both are good.  I often have almonds in my trail mix.

Try mixing some walnuts with your honey nut cherrios and snack on them by the handful. Mmm mmm mmm.

I'd rather they got paid a fair wage and be allowed to stay.  If someone is productive and stays out of trouble, I want them to have a quick path to legal immigration.

Once the 40% of farm workers are yanked from the fields and the remaining 60% are paid their fair wage, I’m sure the price of scarcer produce at the supermarket will plummet immediately as patriotic farmers (i.e., multinational agribusinesses) absorb the additional per unit costs, for the good of the American people.

Homan said they are going after folks that have been through the system already and have been given deportation status and actual convicted criminals.

What percent of farm employees would that be?

This. The real reason the illegals have been allowed to stay is that the business community knows removing them will drive up wages everywhere. The employers of illegals wail that Americans won't do the work implying that they are too lazy, but the truth is not that they are lazy, it's that being legal, they have choices. You will have to pay enough to make it a better choice to get legal workers out in those fields and into those hotels and construction jobs and American business doesn't like that idea one bit.

Employers of non illegals say the same thing, especially after the pandemic.  A lot of people voluntarily retired, or hit normal retirement age (Baby Boomers especialy) and that created a big gap in available workers.  People realized they didn't need that extra job.  Employers whined that "nobody wants to work".  No... "nobody wants to work for you".  They had to fight for employees and they didn't like it.

The argument you use sounds very similar to the south when talking about freeing slaves. You would rather under pay an illegal than pay a proper wage to an american.

I'm glad to see you're a progressive now, advocating for a higher minimum wage as progressives like myself and others on this site and across the country have been doing for years. So that's good to see. Normally MAGA folks talk about how raising the minimum wage will just raise prices. So good that you're not making that argument.

Furthermore, I've said before that I want to ensure all workers are paid a living wage. The trouble with farm and agriculture work is that most Americans don't want to do this type of backbreaking labor. There are many examples out there of farmers reporting back that they can't find or hire Americans who want to do agriculture work and so they end up needing to supplement part of their workforce with undocumented immigrants.

To make the slavery comparison though is pretty low. Slaves were under bondage and not paid at all. Speaking of the south, it's your side, MAGA, that keeps flying the confederate flag everywhere and talking about southern heritage, which includes the enslavement of people. Not a heritage I'd want to fly a flag for, but that's just me.

Lots of hotel rooms in big cities. Hotels like Trump Inc who i would wager employ illegal residents, and under pay them to clean rooms. Big business people wont take kindly to dirty unkempt rooms

Throw in transportation in major cities, the vast majority of cab and uber drivers are probably here illegally. Cab and limo owners are probably legal. i wonder about some of the folks they hire. Where are they gonna find replacements

I'd guess that's true of a lot of those working for delivery services such as Grubhub and DoorDash.

Breaking.

NBC News projects: Democrat Adam Gray wins California's 13th Congressional District. This is a flip for Democrats.

The House is now set. Republicans can lose just two votes on legislation in the next Congress.

This is before any of Trump's nominees leave. I think they're all in safe MAGA seats. Need to stock up on popcorn

This used to be a reliable GOP seat. U dear Trump they've lost three times

n Orange County, CA:
Donald Trump lost for the third time in a row
A former Trump appointee and wife of CA's GOP Nat'l Committeeman is gonna fail to be re-elected to Congress
And in 4 out of 5 congressional races, voters chose Dems

Uber, like everyone else uses now. Who hails a cab anymore? 🙂

So, 220 for the Republicans, eight flipped from Democrats.

And 215 Democrats, nine flipped from Republicans.

More seats flipped to Democrats than Republicans.

You don't say.

I guess it wasn't such a mandate election predicated on the failure of Democratic Party ideals after all. Looks like it really was about something else.

It's been a while since I spent any time at DTW. Did a bit of loading vehicles for the monopoly that had the ground transportation bid (cabs and limos). I'm not sure how they handle that now, and if they even check for credibility. It used to be outside companies needed to check in with ground transportation in the parking garages. No curbside pickup allowed.

I don't think the mentality of the average passenger has changed however. Most of them are completely clueless when it comes to finding rides

I get reels/tiktoks on Vegas travel and such for some reason, the algorithm, and one of the things that's suggested on travel from the airport is to not rule out cabs.  They have set prices where the ride share is dynamic and you could get hosed.  But from memory they are on  different levels at the airport so you should check before going down the wrong path.  Last 2 times I went I used rideshare.  The dynamic pricing is no joke.  I was at one end of the strip after a long day and my hotel was at the North end.  I saw that rain was on it's way so I booked quickly.  In my car after it started to rain I checked again and it was $40.

It's more like like an anti incumbent vote than a mandate for either party

I needed an Uber here in Billsburg when my wife had the car. I checked with the concierge at the hospital, they recommended a local cab company instead. Evidently here in the exburbs Uber and Lyft is hard to find. Bus service was good but didn't want the two mile hike from the bus stop to the house.

One of the reasons I'm glad Logan is located in the center of the MBTA is that I don't have to spend an arm and a leg on Uber, Lyft, cabs, or whatever else people have to spend on.

And it's a big reason I hope we can save public transportation. We've already lost much of the bus network that used to go just about anywhere in the country (including to my brother's town, population app. 900). And I'm guessing public transportation has a gigantic bullseye all over it, even more than it did before.
