Inflation is lower than it was before the inflation reduction act, so maybe it's doing OK. Or maybe it was gong to start getting better anyway because we are further away from peak Covid. You are right about magic wands. No President has a magic wand which controls the economy. In fact, they are limited in what they can do to fix the economy, especially short term. Have you ever heard Trump talk? Not just edited sound clips but actually talk for several minutes? He doesn't know **** about any policy issue. I see no magic there. Any good results that happen will have to come from elsewhere. Edited December 16, 2024 by Tiger337 Quote

CMRivdogs Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 If FB and NextDoor comments are any indication of business acumen then private companies like UPS and FedEx are doing ****ty jobs at delivering packages, let alone allowing them to deliver mail. Personally I think the PO should triple the junk mail rate. The current Trump guy running the PO has been a disaster. If you do a bit of research and look up the Richmond, Va distribution center fiascos, you'll get a good look at the future under King Donald, the First of His Name. Quote

And of course, there are other factors involved that could keep prices going up. The only other way I can think of it happening is an executive order saying that businesses *must* reduce their prices. I have no idea if that could even be done, but I have a better idea about how much those who bought and paid for him might react to that. Quote

It just isn't going to happen, because every central banker in the world today believes deflation is far more dangerous to an economy than any impact of any typical inflation. Again, a very plain simple fact of which most Americans are ignorant because; politicians find it more convenient to lie and obfuscate than just explain/admit the facts, and the (vast majority of the) media is economically illiterate. There is a theory behind the tariffs, that the economic pain that the tariffs will inflict will magically lead to a bunch of onshoring of American manufacturing, increasing jobs to Americans. It's obviously a load of horse****, but to a degree some have either bought it or are hanging on it at the very least. I would be curious to know for how long we are all expected to hold our tongue and refrain from complaining about higher prices should he implement these tariffs.... is there a timeline? Or, paraphrasing Lord Farquaad from Shrek, are Americans paying higher prices in pursuit of flawed economic policy just a sacrifice that Donald Trump has to make?
