Some of my fondest memories as a youngster there. It was the home of Camp Powhatan Boy Scout Camp. That and a great hike to Mount Rogers Quote

The embattled minority government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says it will invest C$1.3 billion ($909 million) toward border security over six years. The plan focuses on fentanyl, irregular migration and organized crime. https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/canada-pledges-beefed-up-border-immigration-restrictions-appease-trump-2024-12-17/ LOL - C$1.3B over 6 yrs is small money even by Canadian standards. Another political announcement that is more PR than program. Our Canadian neighbors absorb their lessons from the South well. Edited December 19, 2024 by gehringer_2 1 Quote

For perspective, the Toronto Blue Jays, based on their latest Forbes valuation, are worth C$3 Billion - so we are talking about a total investment yearly that is less than half of the value of Canada's MLB team. So very much a drop in the bucket in terms of Canada's federal budget, correct. Edited December 19, 2024 by mtutiger Quote

I don't know if anyone in DC who matters even remembers, but this (US complaints about Canadian border policy) was a big deal after 9/11 and what eventually led to the end of open travel between the US and Canada. I was doing a lot of traveling to Canada in those days and part of the fallout from the argument across the border was that all of our technical services personnel that had Canadian clients had to take out Canadian work permits to go see them, which they had never required previously. PITA, and perfectly senseless, and 25 yrs later we still don't have the open border back. Edited December 19, 2024 by gehringer_2 Quote
CMRivdogs Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 Let's not forget who is paying for the construction of the Gordy Howe International Bridge. And that the Trump Administration did not negotiate the deal Quote
Motown Bombers Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 I remember when Republicans actually got it on the ballot to stop the bridge Canada was paying for. Quote

I couldn't imagine being a politician living through 2022-2023 and seeing what the impacts were and thinking, "oh yeah, let's embrace policies that will lead to even more inflation". Trump doesn't care, the man has few convictions but the tariffs are one of them.... but his party should care because they will outlive and outlast him and will have to deal with the consequences. I'm not sure they understand it will lead to inflation, or even that it's a possibility. I think a high percentage of MAGA politicians, like their constituents, are completely drowning in the kool-aid when it comes to Trump and the economy. They truly, honestly believe wages will skyrocket, prices will plummet, immigrants will disappear, all that,, the day Trump takes office. And when none of that happens, they'll blame the Democrats, the deep state, the media, academia, and who knows, maybe a few new enemies they will identify, like everyday people who would never vote for Trump. 2 Quote
CMRivdogs Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 A large portion still believe in the Trickle Down Fairy. That and they have to bend over for the billionaire donors who demand tax cuts in return. That and the democrats are giving all their money away to those who "don't earn it" or folks who flip hamburgers for a living, while they continue to receive their farm subsidies and disability benefits. 2 Quote

Why? because the RWM is telling them that. How do I know this? From listening to just three minutes of RW radio while driving through the south in late October. That's all it took for me to fear the election was lost. 1 Quote

Tigeraholic1 Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 (edited) That was a corrupt circus, how do you get your whole office disqualified? https://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/amp/rcna184921 A Georgia appellate court ruled Thursday that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and her entire office are disqualified from prosecuting the case that accuses then-President Donald Trump — who lost the 2020 election — of trying to interfere with our state’s election. At issue was a “personal relationship” that the district attorney eventually admitted that she’d had with Nathan Wade, whom she had assigned as a special prosecutor to the case.
