This is a weird but really interesting story.

The people of the Malaitan state of Solomon Islands basically got really angry at their government for taking CCP money to recognize the PRC over Taiwan.  So, they all got in their boats and roared over to the capital on Guadalcanal and went rioty.   Taiwan being really popular with these folks I guess.  According to the China watchers I work with this is a similar story on a lot of the islands in the Pacific that the PRC is working to elite capture.  The churchy common folks really don't like it because CCP = satan to them.

Diplomatic boycott over the olympics is not enough.  None of it hurts Xi enough for what he's done and is threatening.

I agree, it is silly to announce that a bunch of freeloaders will not be attending.  Nobody cares.

we would have sent diplomats but you guys would have tried to murder them with the noise weapon you've been using against them everywhere.  So, to avoid our being murdered or maimed...we aren't going.

we would have sent our athletes but you guys might have found some Muslims or Christians among them and sent them to a reeducation camp

we would have sent some of our business leaders but you would have had them murdered like you are doing to your own business leaders

Very diplomatic of us.

Good

More forces, more integration, more collective security.  Less obedience to Beijing.  Trade between democracies and near-democracies (like the United States) and fuck the totalitarian bullies Xi and Putin.

Yeah… Ok….

I"m sure US DOD is taking his advice under advisement.

Still, it goes to show that you give people like this the propaganda edge when you regularly kill the wrong people.

Monday’s Bullwark was a guy that has specialized in making movies more marketable in China.  Much of it was stuff I think most on this site are aware of with China, but some specific examples made for an interesting podcast.

I meant to listen to that but had to wait on my visiting family hand and foot.   Now that I'm safely back at work...my opportunity arrives.

Schadenfreude feelings to see that the quisling American who is skating for China's olympic team is getting destroyed on Chinese social media for having a fall.

Nope.

good.  cause it doesnt surprise me either.  in fact, i wonder if this ever really happened, or if it did, it was because we knew what china would do so we did it just to release the information and make them look bad.  i assume that's why we did it.

I don't know...

I think they had to at least take the chance that China might talk Putin down...

They didn't, no surprise, but... had to take that chance.

no reason for china to do that.

and they didnt.

So, these are the security guarantees necessary for collective security

You must stand up to the bullies.  You can't do it everywhere but you have to pick your battles and be deliberate and clear.
