If he goes to Vanderbilt we lose him.

We either sign him and stick him in the Tigers' minor league system or, we lose him...

Would that mean the Tigers have already had conversations with him and his agent about his willingness to sign?

Can;t play college if you sign.

If he signs they might send him to rookie ball in Lakeland for the rest of the year then likely west michigan to start next year.

If he doesn't sign he can go to school, isn't draft eligible until 2026 and we get pick 4 next year.

So we would get whatever pick we earn and #4 or just the #4?

That snarky and subtle flip of the bird holding the baseball?  You know he’s going to have his own version of the Billy Ripken bat knob baseball card.

We'd get pick 4 and whatever pick we earn from this current season so likely we'd be looking at 2 top 5-10 picks. Still though I put the chances of him not signing at like 5% or less just based off of history. It happens here and there but very rarely, particularly since the new slotting system has been put in place.

Seems like a good kid, happy to be a Tiger

Godspeed!

Doesn’t sound like a kid that’s trying to figure out which class to enroll in for the fall. Sounds pretty well spoken for a kid a few weeks out of high school.

Non issue on what happens if he doesn’t sign.  Sounds like the team and his agent agreed to pay him the #4 pick slot.

We wait for Malloy, Keith and Jung to figure out their defense and position. All Clark has to do is prove he can hit. We know his speed and arm are already going to have an impact. I'm happy because I prefer guys who can hit and play defense. I think the only real question with Clark is how much power will he have 20 HR? 30HR? He's going to hit.

Hold up, he was the third pick, how do these slots work?

99% assuredly. Teams' background research includes conversations on signing. This is probably true from around the 1st to maybe 5th rounds where it gets harder to predict who falls at around there.

I think that's how we signed Colt Keith in the 5th when we drafted him out of HS...

If you don't sign your draft pick this year, you get the same pick next year, -1 slot. So #3 this year becomes #4 next year.
