illitch also never forgave him for refusing to manage the strike breakers, iirc.

True.

One of the reasons we all loved Sparky was that he was a tough SOB that took no shit from anyone which must have really sucked for Ilitch to be his boss.

This is the gist of it. Illitch and the baseball establishment pretty much sent him to baseball Siberia.

Hope the offense wasnt playing a pingpong tournament in the back when Lou was giving them advice on being/staying focused and not taking being a Tiger lightly...

No, the real issue was when in some team literature they listed Mike & Marion Illitch as the owners (which we all know is true), but then Marion had interest in Motor City Casino and when baseball inquired about that, they blamed team publicist Dan Ewald, who was friends with Sparky and Sparky defended Dan and that really pissed off the family.

The more I learn about the Illitch's, the more I realize how/why Chris is such a dipshit..and the more I'd love for him to just sell the team.  They may very well have overtaken the Ford fam at this point.

Sparky was not in great shape for last years of his life.  He had dementia pretty bad which didn’t allow him to be out in public.   Not much they could really do at the time.

I never knew that.

This was the reason I always heard.

Did Shep just kick Lou out of the booth?  So much for the tears shed earlier.

Lol, does Shep have a hall of fame vote?  Hope not for Lou's sake...

Apparently they were...

And Hill is even gutting out a pretty decent start...

These young starters will never get the due they deserve.

They would be the worst team in baseball without em

Well, good luck finding some salt of the Earth type that happens to be a billionaire to replace them.
