RaceDog Posted August 10, 2022 Posted August 10, 2022 Nice to see what they have here with him. Quote

gkelly Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 Might already be the team's best offensive player. Quote

1984Echoes Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 Opposing pitchers will quickly hunt for weaknesses or... the "book" on him... He'll have to make adjustments back or become Boesch 2.0 or Chris Shelton 2.0. That... will be the test to pass to see if he's real... Quote

I do like the fact that he works a pretty good AB, but this is right. The odds are that he's Boesch or Shelton, but who doesn't love an underdog? Especially with this team that otherwise doesn't score or hit home runs with any regularity? Quote
Cruzer1 Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 Easy guess is that he would be Brian Bluhm's favorite Tiger right now. Quote

I believe the reason some players strart out strong and then quickly fade is that pitchers don't want to waste all their high stress pitches on a rookie and they want to see if they can get him out with less than their best. I am not saying this is what's happening with Carpenter. I am speaking in general. Quote
Shinzaki Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 Both Shelton and Boesch had two productive seasons in Detroit. Be great if Carpenter surpassed that...but I'd be ecstatic to get those results from a 19th round pick Quote

I am not saying this is what's happening with Carpenter. I am speaking in general. This sound reasonable. Add in the fact that he’s not a highly rated prospect. Some random call up is probably worth going two pitches deep on. Save the third/fourth for other established hitters. On the flip side, I would think opposing pitchers go after someone like Torkleson as though they aren’t a rookie. It’s not to say that’s why Torkleson has struggled. Quote
