RandyMarsh Posted August 14, 2022 Posted August 14, 2022 Considering where Carpenter was at this time last year I bet there was no way him or his family thought he'd get a Major League hit within the next 12 months. Quote

RandyMarsh Posted August 14, 2022 Posted August 14, 2022 Another post about Carpenter and his family, seeing a family of a 19th round pick and non top 30 organizational prospect's reaction to a player's first hit brings me more joy than seeing a first rounder or hyped prospect. I know for a parent it means the same for them and both players and their families probably worked just as hard throughout their life but unlike a top prospect who barring a freak injury is almost certainly going to get enough chances to get that hit somebody like Carpenter may not. For all him or his family knows this could be his one shot and he may never get a call up again so seeing that hit and knowing that at the very least your son/brother/husband got a hit in a major league game has to be emotional. The tough part for about being a late round guy like Carpenter is how much skepticism someone like him generates, which I doubt he's oblivious to. Which makes it natural to press in that situation of getting the call up to the big club, which in turn may make it self-fulfilling prophecy when trying to stick. My view is that he is here because he earned it. Even if it is a crappy ballclub, he earned the shot. Hopefully getting this behind him will help going forward.
