Javy up over .850 OPS this month, third month this season over .800 so he's had stretches of great play it's just that when he was bad he was REALLY bad. This is very Porcelloish but if you throw out his disastrous May where he had a .432 OPS he'd be over .750 OPS for the season which considering the environment would be well above league average. Hopefully next year his disastrous stretch will be better in which case he could finish above league average offensively.

yeah - at this point I'm not worried about Javy any more. We were told he'd be erratic, he has been and since he had such a bad stretch early his numbers have never recovered but I'm OK  penciling him in at SS for next season. They have bigger batting order fish to fry than to spend time and resources chasing another SS when they are needed more at 1b, 2b, 3b, C and OF..

Haven't watched much the past few weeks so maybe he's done it a few times but that was the first time I can remember seeing Riley take a bad route/get a bad jump on a ball allowing a should be out dropping in for a hit.

so they bring in a pitcher with a terrible walk rate, and you sub out a guy who actually can walk for a guy who can't, who promptly strikes out. I think handedness is as important in baseball as anyone, but I don't get that move.

This team is such a paradox: you look at the likely starting pitching for next season with Manning, Skubal (at some point) Brieske, Wentz, Turnbull, ERod and you think - how can a team with that starting pitching not be a lock to at least challenge for a playoff spot, yet you still struggle to see how they can rebuild enough of the position roster to be taken seriously at all.

Beck says that 82 of Manning's 87 pitches were sliders or fastballs. What happened to his curveball that he used to feature? Did he scrap that since he made his return?

not much need to expand your repertoire when you are throwing a 3 hitter.

I will say as bad as that looked it did take a heads up play by Kelly and a flawless shovel to the catcher to get him. If Kelly didn't react so fast and scoop it and toss it so cleanly he would've scored but naturally he did everything perfectly since it's the Tigers.

fuckin' hell, Javy.

FH Haase and/or TORK! as well. Pollock had turned toward second and the umpire was ready to call the out, and all they had to do was handle it cleanly and it would inning over right now.
