gehringer_2 Posted December 19, 2022 Posted December 19, 2022 Russia seems to be putting everything they can into Bakhmut and the recent rounds of missile strikes. Putin has been searching desperately for victory to hang on the wall - apparently to the point of dodging his normal public appearances waiting for one. The missile strategy has probably reached its point of decreasing returns because of depletion on the Russian side, increased AD resources going to theater and because Ukrainian coping strategies will evolve and improve. If Russia fails to produce a ground victory in Bakhmut, what will Putin's next spin on the narrative be? Quote

They've been chasing Bakhmut for at least 6 weeks now = ZERO results. And it's all Prigozhin's Wagner Group too. Including all the prison-soldiers he desperately turned to that have turned into... nothing but untrained cannon fodder. This is egg on both Putin's AND Prigozhin's faces... Quote
romad1 Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 This comp with Churchill in 1941 is scary because that presaged hundreds of thousands of US battlefield deaths. But we have to stop this disease of Putinism Quote
romad1 Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 Prigozhin is throwing all these convicts into the meat grinder so he can be Putin’s successor. Quote

1984Echoes Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 I think Putin is doubling down... It's why I would have no problem, immediately, sending ATACMS to Ukraine. They need the longer range... NOW. I also expect him to force Byelorussia to capitulate and be incorporated into "Greater Russia"... soon. He'll offer Lyukashenko something cushy... Lyuka can't trust him but it's a deal he won't be able to refuse: either his signature on the deal or his brains. Quote

Putin will be testing his assumption there. Quote
Screwball Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 A week old, but relevant; This DC party invite shows all the money to be made off the Ukraine war - Vox I think the logos along the bottom are a really classy touch Quote
gehringer_2 Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 If the twittersphere is to believed, Ukrainian offensive actions are racheting up. Quote
romad1 Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 Saw some tweets this morning about Turkey balking at Sweden NATO membership. Not great. Quote
1984Echoes Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 Sweden says that they WON'T be able to meet each and every one of Erdogan's demands. Biden needs to call Erdogan right now and tell him to quit fucking around and let them into NATO NOW! Quote
